Terrorists held German National, Mr Edgar Raupach Hostage

Some group of well armed, unknown terrorist in Kano have killed a German national by name Mr Edgar Fritz Raupach .
Mr Edgar had been held hostage  in Kano since January this year. He was kidnapped along Zaria bye pass while working for Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company.

On sighting JTF, the terrorist began shooting and a fire exchange between JTF and terrorist began resulting in death of 5 members of the terrorist group.

SHOCKER: A 300-Level Undergraduate of UNN Hangs Himself at School

Undergraduate who committed suicide.

The Picture above is that of a 300-level undergraduate student of Physics and Astronomy of University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who commited suicide . I am still yet to get his real name.

His roomates said he left their room at around 2am this morning. They thought he was going to class to read as usual. But only to wake up in the morning to find his corpse hanging on a rope.

The undergraduate was said to be in his early 20's.

Governor Fashola has decided to  recall all the 788 sacked Lagos Doctors.
This decision was confirmed by Hakeem Bello, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Lagos State governor.

Mr Hakeem further said the decision to recall all the sacked doctors was as a result of several pleas and persuasions from the state and national leaders of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)Party, traditional rulers and other concerned leaders in the country.

Rwanda: Ex-Minister Jailed For Life Over Genocide

The former Rwandan Minister of Youth and Associate Movements, Mr Nzabonimana, has been convicted of genocide, conspiracy, incitement and extermination as a crime against humanity.

Mr Nzabonimana is 59 years old. He was arrested in Tanzania in 2008.
Mr Nzabonimana facilitated and conspired  the killings of the Tutsis.

Ethnic Hutu militia and soldiers butchered 800,000 minority Tutsis and politically moderate Hutus in the tiny east African country in just 100 days between April and June 1994.

This judgement was passed by The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), based in Arusha in Tanzania.

Wole Soyinka Calls Jonathan's Abiola University a "Gift Horse".

Noble Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has joined Unilag students in condemning President Jonathan's renaming of Unilag to Abiola University.

Prof Wole complained that Jonathan did not consult with the university authorities before reaching the conclusion. Thereby, undermining University Autonomy.

He also pointed out that there is a hidden agenda behind such rename.
Wole was also unhappy on why President Jonathan referred to Abiola as "Presumed Winner" in the 1993 presidential elections.

Though Wole Soyinka applauded the president for the gesture to remember Abiola but says the intent is dubious and suspicious.

In the  same vein , Wole Soyinka said he was and still oppose to the renaming of the University of Ife to Obafemi Awolowa University.

Initially, Ice Prince has denied being the father of Bimbo's Child who was born on March 1, 2012. Bimbo Babatunde is 20-year-old former Houdegbe North American University undergraduate.

But after weeks of denial, Ice Prince( also called Panshak Zamani ) has finally accepted his responsibility.

When asked how being a father will affect his music career, he replied: ‘Yes I am. I have a strong team around me and we are able to schedule our events properly. This gives me time to take care of all the things that I need to take care of’.

Following the 50-year jail term handed to former Liberian dictator, Charles Taylor, thousands of Liberians were happy with the judgement. Cahrles Taylor is 64 years old.

Most Liberians were seen dancing and chanting songs of victory across the street.

Also, international human rights organisation like Amnesty International, also hail the verdict. However, many rights groups have called for his prosecution for alleged crimes in Liberia.

Drogba could now become Chinese' latest football acquisition as this was unveiled yesterday.

Maiduguri: Gunmen Attack Bakery, Kill 2 People.

Today, a group of gunmen attacked a Bakery located Ndayah area on the outskirts of Maiduguri and opened fire on the workers. They killed 2 people, injure 3 others and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
This was confirmed by spokesperson of Military unit deployed in Maiduguri, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa.

Colonel Musa said: “At about 0230 hours today suspected armed robbers attacked a bread bakery … The suspected robbers killed two and wounded three persons and carted away some unspecified amount of money, handsets and other valuables".

NCC May Issue Fresh Fines of Over N1.2billion To Telecoms Operators



The Nigerian Communication Commission(NCC)  may decide to  issue fresh sanctions to the 4 major telecoma(MTN,GLO,AIRTEL and Etisalat) for failing to pay the N1.2billion fine early imposed on them for poor services to subscribers in March and April, 2012.

The Telecoms Operators were expected to pay up the ealier fine latest 25th May, 2012 or risk to deposit extra payment of N2.5Million each day after the expiration date. But at present, none of them has made any payment to that effect. Out of this N1.2billion, MTN and Etisalat are to pay N360Million each, Airtel to pay N270Million and Glo to pay N180Million.

Despite the huge protests by Unilag students and some criticism trailing the renaming of Univeristy of lagos to Abiola's University, the federal government has stand its feet saying there is no going in renaming Unilag to Abiola University.

This was confirmed by Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku who spoke after this Wednesday's Federal Executive Council. The Minister who described Abiola as a "Great Nationalist, True Champion and Martyr of Democracy" said Abiola more than deserved such honour.

Mr Labaran also said the students' protest was misguided and the handiwork of some miscreants.

It came as a  big surpride to me when the governor of Taraba State, Governor Danbaba Sutai, refuses to accept the Honorary Doctorate Degree offered to him by Federal University of Yola(FUTY), Adamawa.

FUTY has scheduled this weekend to award Certificates, Diplomas, First Degrees and Honorary Doctorate Degree to its 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 graduands.

No one at present knew why the governor rejected the award. An offer many of our leaders are clamoring for, but here is a leader who is rejecting the same offer.

Charles Taylor is the first former head of states to be convicted of war crimes since World War 11.

He was convicted on charges of Murder, rape, sexual slavery and conscription of children younger than 15 years.

The Imo State workers have today began an indefinite strike following unresolved industrail dispute with the state government.

      Confirming this strike  in a statement  by the State Public Service Negotiating Council, SPSNC, Trade Union Side, signed by the State Chairmen of Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Coleman Okwara and Dr. Reginald Anyadike respectively and four others.

     The circular read: “Labour has observed with dismay and consternation that government, in its usual disposition, has reneged by refusing to sign the agreement jointly reached with labour.”

Police Rescue 96-yr-old Woman From Kidnappers

In Enugu, the anti-kidnap squad of the State Police command, has rescued a 96-year old woman. Her name is mrs Theresa Okafor.  She was kidnapped last Wednesday from her Imezi Owa village in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State.

Mrs Theresa is the mother of a known retired Assistant Inspector general of Police(AIG), Dr. Anthony Okafor.  It is believed she was held hostage in a forest at Ezema village in Imezi Owa community.

Mrs Okafor was rescued on Monday at Midnight.

Unilag Students Protest Renaming Their Institution After Late MKO Abiola

Following President Goodluck National Speech on Tuesday(yesterday) in which he said Unilag will be renamed after late MKO Abiola, the students of Unilag Main Campus , Akoka, stage a protest to resist such change of name.

 The protesting students were said ti interupt traffic within and outside the institution.

Bolanle Ajayi, a student of the University as saying, “Change of name is the least of our problems. Besides, there is MAPOLY, already named after Abiola.”

Contrary to the students protest, the late Abiola's family were said to be happy about the decision.
Late MKO Abiola was  the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential elections.

I agree with the students. We have more urgent problems than just renaming.

A multiple accident which ocurred near Okpella, on the Benin-Auchi- Okene highway in Edo State, claimed the lives of atleast of 5 people.

Source said it occurred on the early morning of Saturday last week  involving 4 vehicles. Among the victims are apprentice, the driver and owner of goods in one of the articulated vehicles and two others.

FRSC Auchi branch, confirmed that one of the vehicles which belongs to Dangote Group lost control and hit other vehicles.

May their souls rest in peace.

During the childrens day celebration, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)  had arrested  five secondary schools students at M.K.O. Abiola Stadium,  the venue of the Children’s Day Celebration, for being  in possession of charms and intoxicated drinks.

The governor, Governor Ibikunle Amosun , who was not happy with the incident  advised the children to be of good character.

He said: “As leaders of tomorrow, you must strive to be upright in all your undertakings. You should cultivate the virtues of discipline, decency, seriousness of purpose, focus, and respect for constituted authority and appreciation of dignity of labour.”

Sir Elton John was diagnosed with a respiratory infection was admitted into the hospital and placed on antibiotics.

But the 65-year old music legend was on Thursday, May 24th, 2012 discharged from the Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where he has been receiving medication for his respiratory infection.

This infection had led to cancellation of some of his proposed tours to Europe and rest of the world. He was against stressful activities. But despite this warning, Sir Elton still plan to embark on his tour to Europe beginning with Germany on Friday June 1, 2012.

Myself:

I am referred to me as Soji Bankole in the soap opera, Tinsel. I am fun loving, weird but a bit on the shy side.

How I got my Tinsel role:

Modelling got me on Tinsel. I have been doing fashion and photography modelling until my agent called me for an audition. I went for it thinking it was the usual fashion stuff. I didn’t know it was an audition for a soap opera— probably, I would not have gone. I was supposed to be there by 10 o’clock but eventually got there by 5pm! I was auditioned but didn’t expect anything to happen. Five weeks later, I was called and told that I’d gotten the role and was instructed to send my clothing measurements for a photo shoot. I never took them serious until I got to the venue of the shoot and I saw other cast members from other countries.

Nigerian Resident Doctors To Embark On 3-day Nationwide"Sympathy Strike" For Sacked Lagos Doctors-Promised Indefinite Strike if Issue is Unresolved

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) ha decided on 3-day warning strike, tagged "Sympathy Strike". The essence of the strike was to  draw necessary attention(s) to the unresolved dispute between the Lagos government and its resident doctors.

NARD is an association of all doctors working at all Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria. NARD said it will embark on indefinite strike after the 3-day strike if the problem between Lagos government and Lagos resident doctors remains unresolved.

State Governors Support FG Plan To Increase Electricity Tariff

All the 36 states governors held a town hall meeting which was organized by the Ministry of Power. At the end of the meeting, the governors had agreed with FG plans to increase tariffs of electricity.

The governors said their decision was reached after several discussions and consultations with Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the agency responsible for the review of electricity tariff.

The governors also said they aren't happy with FG deductios from their allocated revenues in bid to investing to developing power sector whic yields no substantial result.

But latest gist I got is that the son of Patience Ozorkwo(aka "Mama Gee") just got married to his sweet heart. His name is Mr Nduka Morrison Ozokwo . Mr Nduka did his traditional marriage on  Friday, 25 th May 2012. While the Church Wedding was done just yesterday.

Mama Gee, who could not hide her joy, tweeted: “I can’t wait. The time is here and yet seems far.Your prayers is the best wedding gift.”

On Friday, 25th May 2012, the Ogun State government distributed over 500 electricity  transformers to many communities in the 20 Local Government Area.

This was confirmed by Mr Amosun at Owode, the headquarters of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area during his 5th days of his visits to all the 20 Local Government Area.

Nice move.I pray all other givernors copy this gesture so that we can have more and stable electricity in the country. Stable electricity is an important tool to any nation that wants to develop.

Ahead of Ondo 2012 governorship election, ACN has set up a 50-man committee to screen out over 30 aspirants jostling for the ticket of the party. Few days ago, she did the Nikai ceremony. But she decided to have a white wedding and a traditonal wedding on saturday and at same venue.

It was all funfair as celebs from the entertainment industry stormed the wedding ceremony at The Haven event centre, Lagos.

Nollywood actor, Enebeli Elebuwa, was struck by Stroke late last year. Since then, each passing days, his health continues to worsen.

But his miracle came when he was healed by the Lagos based controversial preacher, Dr Sign Fireman.

Dr Fireman who was moved by Enebeli's health condition, instructed his family to relocate the actor to the church where he (Fireman) prayed before Enebeli was healed of his life-threatening ailment.

Dr Fireman has his church located in Surulere. Dr Fireman came to prominence when the showbiz personality show visited him.

NUPENG Threatens Strike Over Sacked Lagos Doctors

The National President of NUPENG, Mr Igwe Achese.

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday threatened to embark on solidarity strike if the state government fails to recall the sacked doctors.

NUPENG aresaying that both parties should return to negotiating table. This is confirmed by the National president, NUPENG, ” We call on both parties to go back to the negotiating table with maturity to resolve the conflicts,” he said.
“However, NUPENG will join forces with other well-meaning Nigerians to call the Lagos state government to order to recall the sacked doctors. If the issue persists unresolved by Monday next week, NUPENG may be forced to embark on a solidarity strike action until the sacked doctors are recalled to save the lives of Nigerians in Lagos” he also said.

 On Thursday, President Goodluck Jonathan,  inaugurated a special post-graduate scholarship scheme for all university graduates with a first class degree.

At the State House in Abuja, a 10-man steering committee for the take off of the scheme was inaugurated.

Jonathan said that 60% of our lecturers in our 124 universities had no doctorate degree. He said this situation is not only "unacceptable but embarrassing."

He said: "The information I got from the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) is that about 60 per cent of our academic staff in our universities don’t have PhD. that is quite embarrassing, I belief the Professors here will also feel bad.
"We have 124 universities, Federal, States and private and that is not good enough.
"I will set up an inter-ministerial department to work with some of you in the academics to come up with policies for robust training so that young men and women who are interested in academics could go anywhere in the world, that over the years we must bridge that gap.’’

When a baby is born, it is a thing of joy to the family.
When  twins are born, it is still a thing of joy to the family.
But when a Quardruplet(4 babies at a single birth) is born, it becomes a thing of worry especially if the family is poor or jobless.

This is the case of family of Mr/Mrs Matthew Ukuegbu, who is the father of a set of quardruplet born at Federal Medical Center, Owerri recently. Mr Matthew is jobless.

But Imo Transport Company came to his help and offered Mr Matthew Ukuegbu automatic employment. This was confirmed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Emeka Duru, who said they were moved by the pitied condition of the family and their inability to cater well enough for the 4 babies.
