NCC May Issue Fresh Fines of Over N1.2billion To Telecoms Operators

The Nigerian Communication Commission(NCC)  may decide to  issue fresh sanctions to the 4 major telecoma(MTN,GLO,AIRTEL and Etisalat) for failing to pay the N1.2billion fine early imposed on them for poor services to subscribers in March and April, 2012.

The Telecoms Operators were expected to pay up the ealier fine latest 25th May, 2012 or risk to deposit extra payment of N2.5Million each day after the expiration date. But at present, none of them has made any payment to that effect. Out of this N1.2billion, MTN and Etisalat are to pay N360Million each, Airtel to pay N270Million and Glo to pay N180Million.

Hip Hop Star, Mary J. Blige, Vows To Save Her NGO- The Foundation For The Advancement of Women Now.

Mary J. Blige has an NGO for women called, " The Foundation For The Advancement of Women Now". But sources said her NGO is facing 2 law suits:
1) Missing Donatons running into hundreds of thousands of dollars.
2) A loan of about $250,000 which is yet to be fully paid.

However, Mary J. Blige, who took responsibilities for all that is happening to her NGO,  has vowed to bring her NGO "Back on Track". 

BREAKING NEWS: Fed Govt Says No Going Back on Abiola University

Despite the huge protests by Unilag students and some criticism trailing the renaming of Univeristy of lagos to Abiola's University, the federal government has stand its feet saying there is no going in renaming Unilag to Abiola University.

This was confirmed by Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku who spoke after this Wednesday's Federal Executive Council. The Minister who described Abiola as a "Great Nationalist, True Champion and Martyr of Democracy" said Abiola more than deserved such honour.

Mr Labaran also said the students' protest was misguided and the handiwork of some miscreants.

Surprise: Governor Rejects Honorary Doctorate Degree From A Reknown University

It came as a  big surpride to me when the governor of Taraba State, Governor Danbaba Sutai, refuses to accept the Honorary Doctorate Degree offered to him by Federal University of Yola(FUTY), Adamawa.

FUTY has scheduled this weekend to award Certificates, Diplomas, First Degrees and Honorary Doctorate Degree to its 2008/2009 and 2009/2010 graduands.

No one at present knew why the governor rejected the award. An offer many of our leaders are clamoring for, but here is a leader who is rejecting the same offer.

BREAKING: Court Sentenced Charles Taylor to 50 Years In Prison!!

The latest breaking news now is that former liberian dictator, Charles Taylor, has been sentenced to 50 yrears  in Prison by an International Court in the Hague, Netherlands.

Charles Taylor is the first former head of states to be convicted of war crimes since World War 11.

He was convicted on charges of Murder, rape, sexual slavery and conscription of children younger than 15 years.

BEAKING: Imo Workers To Begin Strike Today!!

The Imo State workers have today began an indefinite strike following unresolved industrail dispute with the state government.
      Confirming this strike  in a statement  by the State Public Service Negotiating Council, SPSNC, Trade Union Side, signed by the State Chairmen of Joint Negotiating Council, JNC, and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Coleman Okwara and Dr. Reginald Anyadike respectively and four others.
     The circular read: “Labour has observed with dismay and consternation that government, in its usual disposition, has reneged by refusing to sign the agreement jointly reached with labour.”

Police Rescue 96-yr-old Woman From Kidnappers


In Enugu, the anti-kidnap squad of the State Police command, has rescued a 96-year old woman. Her name is mrs Theresa Okafor.  She was kidnapped last Wednesday from her Imezi Owa village in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State.

Mrs Theresa is the mother of a known retired Assistant Inspector general of Police(AIG), Dr. Anthony Okafor.  It is believed she was held hostage in a forest at Ezema village in Imezi Owa community.
Mrs Okafor was rescued on Monday at Midnight.

Unilag Students Protest Renaming Their Institution After Late MKO Abiola

Following President Goodluck National Speech on Tuesday(yesterday) in which he said Unilag will be renamed after late MKO Abiola, the students of Unilag Main Campus , Akoka, stage a protest to resist such change of name.

 The protesting students were said ti interupt traffic within and outside the institution.

Bolanle Ajayi, a student of the University as saying, “Change of name is the least of our problems. Besides, there is MAPOLY, already named after Abiola.”

Contrary to the students protest, the late Abiola's family were said to be happy about the decision.
Late MKO Abiola was  the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential elections.

I agree with the students. We have more urgent problems than just renaming.
