Abia: Monarch Killed By Irate Youths

ABIA State Police Command says it has arrested 20 suspects in connection with the murder of the traditional ruler of Ugwuleru autonomous community in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.

The traditional ruler, Eze Iroha Nwankwo, 65, was allegedly beaten to death, on Monday night, in his palace allegedly by youths in the community who were said to have invaded his palace at about 11pm.

Over 28 persons have been arrested in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, for alleged cultism.

On Monday, officers of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar, Cross River State, at about 12 a.m., arrested 14 persons, suspected to be members of cult groups terrorizing residents of the Calabar metropolis, at the Hawkins cemetery in Calabar South Local Government Area.

Three militants killed in Nigeria`s Damaturu

Three suspected militants of Nigeria's radical group Boko Haram were killed after a long gunbattle with a military unit, that claimed to have foiled a fresh suicide attack in the restive northern region.

Gunshots and explosions were heard across Damaturu city as operatives of Nigerian military's Joint Task Force attacked the suspected militants after getting information that they were planning suicide attacks in the city.

"A female member of Boko Haram was captured by the police and three others were shot dead," said deputy spokesman of Yobe state police command, Gbadegesin Toyin

Sunny T. Adesokan died early this morning.

The songwriter-performer, who became wildly known in the 90s as ‘omo nna to’n ko fuji (the Igbo man who plays Fuji – a predominantly yoruban music), died this morning, according to his label boss Sarolaj, who spoke with a reliable source.

Two bombs planted Saturday on a bridge in Riyom, some 40 kilometres from Jos, the Plateau capital, have been detonated, the state police command have said.

Spokesman of the command, Abu Emmanuel, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos, that the bombs were planted on the bridge linking Gol-Hoss and Riyom, the headquarters of Riyom Local Government Area.

16-Year Old Girl Gáng-Ráped in SUV for 20 days

A sixteen-year-old girl from the city of Jaipur in India survived a 20-day ordeal where she was repeatedly raped by five youths in a forest near a village in Ajmer district.

According to a report in The Times of India, the teenager managed to escape and inform her family who then approached the police.

During the entire period, the girl was confined in an SUV in which she was allegedly kidnapped.

The report says the girl was at her aunt’s house for the summer holidays when she was abducted.

“She says that she was kept in the car for 20 days and the five youths took turns to rápe her. She says she was repeatedly raped,” the report quoted a policeman as saying. The victim claimed that she was made to eat and sleep in the car only.

PEOPLE living at Oke-Ado area of Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as shop owners and automobile dealers along Molete road in the town, on Thursday, watched a drama involving a pastor and a mad man.

The pastor, whose name is Timothy, according to an eyewitness, got to Ososami junctions of Oke-Ado around 5.20 p.m and went to meet the mentally-deranged man, popularly known as Tunde, who was sitting in front of a building in the area.

Mohammed Morsi was formally sworn in as Egypt’s first democratically elected civilian president at Cairo University on Saturday.

On Friday, Morsi took the oath of President in front of thousands of cheering people. at Tahrir Square.

Morsi is a part of the Muslim Brotherhood party and won Egypt’s first election five days ago by 51% to the 48% gained by rival Ahmed Shafiq.

Morsi has vowed to be inclusive of all Egyptians, including protecting the rights of women and the country’s Coptic Christians.

Nigerian Military has announced plan to deploy more troops to boost the existing manpower in the trouble commercial city of Kano.
Addressing the troops in Kano during an official visit, Chief of Army Staff, Lt General, Azubike Ihejirika declared that “the commercial status of the city and its place in the socio economic baseline of west Africa can not be compromise.

A 15-year-old girl, Rabi Ziki, got pregnant after being raped by two boys. Lauryn Hill, a prominent member of the now defunct U.S based hip hop group,The Fugees, is facing a three year jail term and $75,000 in fines after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges, on Friday.

Lauryn Hill admitted to a federal court, her failure to file three years of taxes on an estimated $1.8million income.

Nathan Hockman, Hill's lawyer, said that the Grammy winner had been a target of the federal government because of her celebrity status.

The United States Department of Justice on Thursday successfully executed a forfeiture order on the sum of $401,931 seized from a Fidelity Brokerage Services LLC account in Massachusetts owned by a former governor of Bayelsa State, Cheif Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

The forfeiture was the first victory for a fledgling Justice Department initiative dedicated to seeking out assets in the U.S linked to high-level foreign corruption.

Five policemen have been reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen in Gulak, a town in Madagali local government area of Adamawa state.

The five policemen were attacked at their duty post in the early hours of Friday in Gulak, which is the home town of the special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on political matters, Ahmadu Ali Gulak.

The new national security adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), stated yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan was committed to ensuring that peace and normalcy is restored in the country, before the Ramadan fast commences.

The State Intelligence Bureau, SIB, of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Police Command, has summoned the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, for a chat with the state Commissioner of Police, Umaru Manko.

The invitation signed by the officer in charge of the bureau, CSP Usman Ayuba, was dated Tuesday, 26 June, 2012, and the pastor was expected to report on Thursday, 28 June.

A 70-year-old man, Jimoh Ayeni, on Thursday appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for the alleged murder of a professor.

Ayeni of Ose-Egbeda Camp in Emure-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State was charged along with his 28-year-old son, Haruna Ayeni, for allegedly killing 68-year-old Prof. Clement Ayeni, News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The accused were arraigned on three counts of conspiracy to murder, hitting the victim with a stick on the head and flogging the professor with a cane until he died.
