3 People Die in Abuja Building Collapse

                             

Three people lost their lives on Wednesday when a storey building under construction at Dutse-Alhaji in Abuja, collapsed.

The building located on Ademola Awosika Street, behind Winners’ Chapel, fell after a light rain in the morning killing three men and injuring nine others.

The victims were believed to be construction workers.

The wounded men were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.

Dana Airline Crash:LASUTH Official Stabs Journalist

 Benedict  Uwalaka a photojournalist with Leadership newspapers almost lost his life today when staff of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and families of victims of Dana Air Plane crash clashed with journalists carrying out their primary assignment in the hospital.

Journalists had gone to cover the release of corpses of the ill fated Dana Airline to families of victims at Lasuth but they got an hostile package in return as the families and staff of the victims freely used bottles, knives and broken blocks to chase them away for daring to take pictures.

Protesting PHCN Workers Lock Shiroro Dam

                      

The chapter of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) at Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station, on Thursday staged a protest against what they termed high-handedness of the Minister of Power, Professor Bart Nnaji, locking the entrance to the power station.

The workers, who blocked the entrance to the dam during the protest, accused the federal government of trying to tactically deny them of their hard earned benefit.

The protesting workers carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘Pay us our full benefit’ and, ‘PHCN say no to military Minister.’

30 HIV Carriers Wed in Dutse

                           

In a bid to reduce the rising number of HIV infected persons in Jigawa state, the state Action Committee on Aids have joined 30 persons in holy matrimony under the matchmaking scheme it initiated.

Executive Secretary of the Jigawa Action Committee on Aids, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the marriages in Dutse the state capital.

Curfew Lifted In Kaduna



The Kaduna State Government today lifted the curfew imposed in the state capital and elsewhere soon after a spate of deadly religious violence on June 17, 2012.

In a statement released by Reuben Buhari, a media aide to Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State, the government cited an “improved security situation witnessed in Kaduna State” as the reason for removing the curfew.

SSS stops Farouk Lawan from traveling abroad at Lagos Airport

                                 

The embattled former chairman of the house of representatives ad hoc commitee on fuel subsidy probe, Hon.Farouk Lawan was on Tuesday night turned back at the Nigerian airport on his way to Saudi Arabia to attend the lesser hajj.

Farouk is in the middle of a controversial bribery allegation that got local and international attention. He was accused ofdemading and getting bribe money to the tune of $500,000 from oil baron, Mr Femi Otedola. He was also accused of conspiring with the clerk of the house, Boniface Emenalo of collecting additional sum of $120,000 from Otedola.

TRAGEDY: Gunmen Attacked and Killed 16 Christians in Deeper Life Church in Kogi

                  

On Monday evening(yesterday), some wicked gunmen attacked and killed about 16 christians Deeper Life Bible Church at Otite in Okehi Local Government council of Kogi state.

Lt Colonel Gabriel Olorunyomi, Commander of Army headquarters Task Force,  confirmed this ugly incident . 

Lt Colonel Gabriel said:“unknown gunmen invaded the Deeper Life Church in this night (Monday) during a worship service and open fire shooting at the worshippers”.

He added that 15 people died instantly while the sixteenth person died in the hospital.

50-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide In Mother’s Toilet

                            

A 50-year-old man man, Moruf Ayoola has been found hanging in a toilet in his mother’s house at Idi Ose area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Crime Features gathered that the man, a vulcaniser, woke up on Sunday July 22 in his residence at Moniya area and left for Idi Ose where his 90-year-old mother lived to greet her as was his custom.

When he got to the mother’s house, the old woman was reported to have noticed a rope in his hand and when she made enquiry on what he wanted to use the rope for, Mr Ayoola was said to have replied that he wanted to repair a faulty electric wire at the back of the house.

I Will Never Resign- Jonathan Respond To Boko Haram

                          

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said that he would neither resign nor convert to Islam as demanded by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

“The President cannot be intimidated by any group or individual. The President will never resign. He has the mandate of Nigerians to serve his father land and nobody should imagine that he will succumb to blackmail,” Reuben Abati,the presidential spokesman told journalists in Abuja.

The Boko Haram, in a youtube broadcast on Saturday asked Mr Jonathan to either resign or change to Islam before it could cease fire.

Detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, are currently investigating a teacher, Patience Orunma, for allegedly defiling a three-year-old pupil at a private school in Berger, Ojodu in Lagos State.

Gist Naija learnt that the victim’s mother spotted blood in the pupil’s private part on June 21 when bathing her.

On inquiry, the victim told her mother that the teacher used a pencil to prick her vagina in the school toilet.

Abuja Demolition Update: FCTA Sensitising, Consulting with Chiefs, Residents of Mpape

                        

The FCT Administration is intensifying sensitisation and consultation with village chiefs and residents of Mpape where 10,288 illegal structures have been marked for demolition.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday and signed by Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed.

The statement said the minister welcomed a court pronouncement on Aug. 5 on the impending Mpape demolition, and urged the affected residents to show understanding.

IBB Warns Clark, For Linking Him To Boko Haram

                            

General Babangida has warned Chief Edwin Clark for including him (along with other Norther rulers) as sponsors of Boko Haram and causing increasing rate of violence in Nigeria.


Babangida, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Kassim Afegbua, denied knowledge of the activities of the sect.

"The statement reportedly credited to Chief Edwin Clark on Friday, August 3, 2012 in several newspapers and online media, to the effect that General IBB has a hand in Boko Haram, is the subject of this response," Babangida's statement read.

BREAKING NEWS: Boko Haram Sets Police Outpost In Sokoto on Fire

                                   

Islamist militant group Boko Haram has intensified attacks on the police in Sokoto state by bombing and razing down a police outpost in Shagari local government area in the state.

A Police source told Gist Naija  that the attackers came on motorbikes and tossed dynamites at the police outpost while firing at police officers on duty. The scene of the attack is a distance of 7o kilometers from Sokoto township where the sect attack two police formations last week.

Details of the attacks remain sketchy, however, the police source stated there was no casualty reported as at the time of publishing this report.

Sokoto is already turning to Maiduguri and Kano.

Gist Naija has learnt that Abdulkadir Kaasa, a former Commissioner of Environment in ex-Governor Ali Modu Sherrif’s administration, was  killed by gunmen very early this morning.

BREAKING NEWS: Damaturu Suicide Bomber Killed Four Soldiers

                                     

The suicide bomber who earlier attacked soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Damaturu, Yobe State killed at least four soldiers in the attack. A source in Damaturu told Gist Naija.

The suicide bomber also died in the bombing, according to the Yobe State Police Command.
 

A senior police officer had earlier confirmed the occurrence of the suicide attack but declined to disclose the number of the soldiers killed in the attack.

The source said, “The soldiers that were killed were four and several others were seriously injured. The suicide bomber also died in the attack, he came riding on a tricycle heavily rigged with bombs and rammed into the soldiers in our area Shagari Low Cost, along the road to Gashua here in Damaturu.”

Nigerian footballer, Henry Chinonso Ihelewere, Dies today in Romania

                                 

A 21 year old Nigeria footballer Henry Chinonso Ihelewere playing football in Romania died today (Sunday) while on the pitch.

 Ihelewere plays for CS Delta Tulcea,Romania second division club.His team was playing against a local team known as FC Balotești when the incident happened.

Gist Naija gathered that Chinoso was already active on the pitch but after about 15 minutes, he collapsed and an ambulance had to be called in.He could not be resucicated for close to an hour.The medical team later pronounced him dead. The actual cause of the death is still unknown as at the time of going to the press.

Pirates attacked a ship being used by an oil servicing company in waters off the Niger Delta Region on Saturday, killing two Nigerian Naval guards and kidnapping four foreigners, the Navy said.

“The incident was somewhere around the Niger Delta, where an oil servicing company was attacked by gunmen. We lost two of our men and four expatriates were abducted, one Malaysian, one Iranian,” Navy spokesman Commodore Kabir Aliyu said.

Lagos Orders NURTW to Leave Motor Parks

The Lagos State Government on Friday ordered members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to vacate motor parks across the state with immediate effect.

ABUJA DEMOLITION: Court Supports FCDA in Mpape Demolition Case

A desperate attempt by residents of Mpape, a slum satellite settlement within the Abuja metropolis in the Nigerian capital, to stave off the impending demolition of their homes by the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, suffered a severe blow on Friday as an Abuja High Court declined to interfere in the proposed demolition.

The slum dwellers had approached the court to secure an injunctive order retraining the authorities from going ahead with the demolition of their houses but the court refrained from making the desired order sealing the fate of the Mpape residents whose homes, numbering in their thousands, may fall to the bulldozers any moment now.

W. T. H: Man Arrested For Allegedly Having Sex with Goat

                    

A 40-year-old man, Victor Nnanna Onyemaechi from Amibo village in Umuahia South Council of Abia State was recently arrested by the state’s police command for allegedly having sex with a neighbour’s goat. 


My source gathered that the man was tied to the goat and paraded round the village before he was handed over to the police by the traditional ruler of Amibo community.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Udevioti Ezekiel, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspects has been charged to court under Section 214 Subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.

BREAKING NEWS: Emir of Fika Narrowly Escapes Death in Mosque Suicide Bombing

                     

Barely one month after a bomb explosion in Maiduguri Central Mosque almost killed the Shehu of Borno, the Emir of Fika, Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, narrowly escaped death today in a another suicide bomb attack at the Potiskum Central Mosque, Yobe state.

Reports say the suicide bomber and the Emir's police orderly died instantly after the bomb went off. A police official said he was awaiting further details of the attack.

Star singer Wizkid and rapper Naeto C have been announced as ambassadors of Eko Football, a Lagos State soccer festival which will be holding its first event in September 2012.

A few months ago, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) announced that the first Soccerex event in West Africa, the Soccerex Seminar Lagos would be hosted in Lagos; the Eko Football Festival will also take place in Lagos; coinciding with Soccerex Seminar Lagos this September.
