BREAKING NEWS:Former Commissioner Killed in Borno State


Gist Naija has learnt that Abdulkadir Kaasa, a former Commissioner of Environment in ex-Governor Ali Modu Sherrif’s administration, was  killed by gunmen very early this morning.

A source within Mr. Kaasa’s family told our correspondent that gunmen numbering about 10 descended on the former commissioner’s home and shot him to death.

BREAKING NEWS: Damaturu Suicide Bomber Killed Four Soldiers

The suicide bomber who earlier attacked soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Damaturu, Yobe State killed at least four soldiers in the attack. A source in Damaturu told Gist Naija.

The suicide bomber also died in the bombing, according to the Yobe State Police Command.
A senior police officer had earlier confirmed the occurrence of the suicide attack but declined to disclose the number of the soldiers killed in the attack.

The source said, “The soldiers that were killed were four and several others were seriously injured. The suicide bomber also died in the attack, he came riding on a tricycle heavily rigged with bombs and rammed into the soldiers in our area Shagari Low Cost, along the road to Gashua here in Damaturu.”

Lena Henderson and Roland Davis got married as teenagers in Chattanooga, Tenn., during World War II. On Saturday, the 85-year-olds are getting re-hitched in Buffalo, nearly 50 years after they divorced, according to Cupid's news cherubs.
"I always thought it might happen," Davis, a military vet whose second wife died in January, told the Buffalo News. "It was always in the back of my mind. We're just thankful that we could get back together."
"I think we just kept thinking about each other all the time, even though we were so far apart," said Henderson, a widow after her second marriage.

Nigerian footballer, Henry Chinonso Ihelewere, Dies today in Romania


A 21 year old Nigeria footballer Henry Chinonso Ihelewere playing football in Romania died today (Sunday) while on the pitch.
 Ihelewere plays for CS Delta Tulcea,Romania second division club.His team was playing against a local team known as FC Balotești when the incident happened.
Gist Naija gathered that Chinoso was already active on the pitch but after about 15 minutes, he collapsed and an ambulance had to be called in.He could not be resucicated for close to an hour.The medical team later pronounced him dead. The actual cause of the death is still unknown as at the time of going to the press.

Stephanie Okereke Rejoices As Her Husband Receives Doctorate Honours

 Stephanie Okereke has just announced recently that her husband, Linus Idahosa, has received a Doctorate Honours.

‘Congratulations to my hubby on his conferred combined Doctorate Degree by the Common Wealth University Belize and the London Graduate School Convocation in Dubai- Hello Dr. Linus Idahosa!’ @StepahnieLinus tweeted.

Linus and Stephanie, who was recently honoured as an ambassador of the University of Calabar, got married in April 2012 in Paris, France.

Meanwhile, her movie production line, Next Page, has announced plans to begin shooting her new movie in December, 2012.

Stevie Wonder Files For Divorce

Stevland Morris, better known as Stevie Wonder, has called it quits with his wife of 11 years.
According to divorce documents which leaked online, the blind singer-keyboardist has been separated from wife Kai Millard Morris since October 2009.

Wonder is asking for joint custody of the couple’s two boys, ages 10 and 7, and has agreed to pay both spousal and child support.

Morris might not be going home with much when the court approves the spilt, as Stevie amassed his wealth well before he tied the knot with her in 2001.

The 62-year-old has been married before – to Motown singer Syreeta Wright from 1970 until their divorce in 1972. He has seven children from both marriages.

Nigeria Wins Medals at World Choir Olympics

A Nigerian choir, the Lagos City Chorale directed by the Maestro, Sir Emeka Nwokedi bagged three Silver medals at the just concluded 7th World Choir Games held in Cincinnati, Ohio USA from 4th – 14th July, 2012.
The 7th World Choir  competition was hosted by the art-loving city of Cincinnati in Ohio State of the United States of America. For the  twelve days  the completion lasted, the City was  literally turned to a global stage for a beautiful display and showcasing of world cultures.
