After scoring the highest mark in the Obafemi Awolowo University post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in the 2010/2011 academic session (320 out of 400), he sits proud as a Law student in the insbosomution’s Faculty of Law.

An indigene of Imo State, the 27 year-old shared his inspiring story with Punch.

At the time he was leaving his secondary school at Okigwe, Imo State, his intention was to gain admission to any University, join a cult group and kill as many people as he could.

Woman Prevented From Committing Suicide To Face the Firing Squad

            

This is the dramatic moment that family, friends and rescue service workers desperately try to stop a woman from leaping to her death.

They are forced to cling to Sheng Fi’s legs as she threatens to throw herself off a nine-storey building.
But what they did not know was that she had smothered her four-year-old nephew just hours earlier and thrown his body from the same roof in Southern China.

Sheng had been embroiled in a bitter row with her sister-in-law, the young boy’s mother, and killed the boy as a result of the fight.
She admitted to smothering him to death and throwing his body from the 100ft tall building in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province before attempting to jump after him

The horrific truth behind her suicide attempt was unveiled when she had been brought off the ledge.

A police spokesman told local media. ‘She will still die now, but by a firing squad for murder.

P-Square’s record label, Square Records, released a statement this morning, announcing the end of their business relationship with the only other artist on their label, Mr May D.

Square Records’ first signing, Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D was signed by the label some months ago and has released few hit tracks under the label including ‘Ile Ijo’, ‘Soundtrack’, and the remix he did with Akon and P-Square.

Racism: Nigerian Student, Olaolu Femi, Suffering In Ukranian Jail For Defending Himself

                                     

A Nigerian student is languishing in Ukrainian jail for allegedly defending himself against six teenagers who attacked him in an entrance to his apartment block on November, 5 last year in Luhanski, Ukraine.

African Outlook gathered that the Nigerian identified as Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi and one of his friends were physically attacked in front of his apartment by four Ukrainian young men and two women who pulled them to the ground while hurling racist slurs on them.

According to eye witness account, Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi was said to have managed to get up and defended himself against the assailants with a glass from a broken bottle. 

South Africa: 20 People Arrestd For Plotting To Kill Nelson Mandela

Bomb Explosions Destroy Primary School In Yobe

                       

The police in Yobe on Monday said that a section of Damagum Primary School in Damagum Local Government Area was gutted by fire from suspected explosions in the area.

Mr. Toyin Gbadegeshin, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, made the disclosure in an interview in Damagum.

He also said policemen on Monday repelled an attempted attack on Damagum Police Station by unknown persons.

Gbadegeshin said “at about 1:05a.m., attacks launched on Damagum Police station and a worship centre were successfully repelled by the police but no casualty was recorded while the gunmen fled into the bush.’’

He said the explosion occurred few hours before the attack on the station but nobody claimed responsibility.

The officer said no casualty was recorded in both incidents.

Many Youths Protest Oil Spill in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

                        

Youths of Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have protested against the oil spill which occurred along the shoreline near Ibeno.

The protesters, made up of fishermen, youths and other groups affected by the spill, carried placards, singing solidarity songs at the council’s secretariat, Uquo.

The protesters were prevented from seeing the LGA Chairman as security personnel locked up the gates. However, the council’s Vice Chairman, Mr. Enobong Asubob, later addressed them.

Police Arrest 3 Robbers in Lagos

                         

Policemen attached to Bode Thomas Division, Lagos State, on Sunday foiled two robbery incidents  in Surulere and arrested three suspects in the process.

GistNaija learnt that the suspects were operating about 8:30am when a resident sent a distress call to the police.

Our correspondent, who visited the area, learnt that the Divisional Police Officer, Bode Thomas, Mr. Bode Ojajuni, led policemen to the scene and arrested one of the suspects identified as Lekan Jamiu.

Anambra State University Students Angry with Bob-Manuel Udokwu

This afternoon top Nollywood actor Bob-Manuel Udokwu was a guest speaker at the Anambra State University, Igbariam.

GistNaija learned that the sweet talking actor was invited by the English Department of the institution to give a speech on “Survival in a Stressed Economy – The Youth’s Agenda.”

Initially, the eloquent Ogidi born star was said to have wowed the crowd with his well-tailored speech…even giving the students a rare insight on how to join and make it in Nollywood.

But problem we gathered started when the star stepped out to answer a call, and as expected, excited fans — mostly females — trooped down to get a closer glimpse of their idol and perhaps take pictures with him, but were shocked when he shunned them, and at one point even yelled at them to keep away.

“I used to have big respect for him, but see how he’s treating us as if we’re nothing.”

Confusion in Kano as Boko Haram members attack Security Agents

There was pandemonium in Kundila Estate area along Maiduguri Road in Kano metropolis on Sunday when suspected Boko Haram members attacked security agents at a roadblock.

The security agents mounted a roadblock at the roundabout near Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.

Around 2.15p.m, the gunmen emerged from Kundila Estate and fired on the roadblock.

The security agents, however, replied and forced the gunmen to beat a hasty retreat into the estate.

The security agents then blocked the entry and exit points of the estate as well as the neighbouring Daurawa Quarters and embarked on a house to house search.

Alleged Man-Eater, Clifford Orji, Dies in Kirikiri Prison

Alleged Cannibal, and 12 years inmate of Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Clifford Orji, has died of unknown causes.

Clifford Orji was a Man known for the evil deed he perpertrated under the bridge which was along Apapa Oshodi Expressway in Lagos.

When he was arrested in February 1999 following a tip-off by passers-by suspecting that he might be an accomplice to ritualists, strange and suspicious items found on him were a cheque of N88,000, Cell Phone, women underwear, including roasted human flesh and bones.

Clifford Orji has being in Kirikiri Maximum security prison for 13years, he developed mental illness in prison and finally died on Friday August 17th in his sleep. He was 46 years old.

I don’t think anyone will miss Clifford Orji.

American rapper, Rick Ross, who is currently in Nigeria, has indicated interest in making some money from the country’s number one mineral resource – oil.

Heavily armed men on Sunday invaded the Oko Minimum Prison in Edo state, freeing 12 inmates.
The gunmen attacked the prison gate and overpowered the prison Arms Squard with explosives, which led to the escape of 12 prisoners.

Eye witnesses said the gunmen arrived the prison in a Toyota Coaster.

According to a resident of Oko community, Edokpayi, the suddenness of the attack and the noise of the explosion caused pandemonium among the people living in and around the prison.

2 Friends Gang-Rape 17-Year Old Girl, Take Her Nude Pictures



A 17-year old girl (name withheld) has narrated before an Ejigbo magistrate’s court in Lagos, how two friends, Ekene Uzor, 24, and Eni Daniel, 21, allegedly gang-ráped her after they had forced her to suck their penises. They also took her nudé photo with their camera phones.

The teenager was giving evidence before the court in a two-count charge of forcing her to suck the defendants’ penises and gang-ráping her.

At Thursday’s resumed hearing before the trial magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami, the girl said she knew Daniel Uzor, who is in the entertainment industry, at her mother’s shop in Surulere, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

Jos Crises: 3 Dead, 2 Injured

Three persons were killed while two sustained injuries as unknown gunmen attacked some Fulani herdsmen in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria on Friday.

A statement issued by the media officer of Special Task Force (STF), Captain Salisu Mustapha, the assailants attacked the five Fulanis on their way to Sho village in an ambush while they were returning from an outing within the community.

Two persons were killed on the spot while the third died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

Lagos Court Sentences 21-Year-old To 1-Year in Prison For Stealing BlackBerry

A 21-year-old man, Abdulahi Ismaila, was on Thursday sentenced to one year imprisonment with hard labour by a Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos, for stealing a Blackberry phone.

The phone the convict was said to have stolen on May 13, 2012, at WAEC bus-stop in Yaba, was valued at N45, 000.

The prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Anyanwu, told the court that the phone was stolen from one Ezemegwalu Christopher, who ran after the convict and apprehended him.

“During the pursuit, the accused passed the phone to his colleagues, and the phone was not found on him,’ he added.

Ismaila pleaded guilty to the offence, but told Magistrate Patrick Adekomaya during trial that it was impossible to produce his accomplice.
In his ruling, Adekomaya gave Ismaila a year sentence with hard labour.

More than 30 Died in South Africa's Mine Crackdown

Heavily armed South African police patrolled Lonmin’s Marikana platinum mine on Friday, where more than 30 striking miners were killed the previous day in a police crackdown that drew comparisons with apartheid-era brutality.

On Thursday, Traders at the Tipper Bus Stop, Ketu area of Lagos, staged a protest regarding relocation and alleged harassment by the Kick Against Indiscipline officials at the state secretariat, Alausa.
