Michael Owen Joins Stoke City For FREE
Former England striker Michael Owen has joined Stoke City on a free transfer, subject to Premier League Board approval, the club announced Tuesday.
Owen, who made his name at Liverpool before joining Real Madrid, has signed a one-year deal following his release from Stoke’s Premier League rivals Manchester United at the end of last season.
He has enjoyed an impressive career, scoring 221 goals in 473 appearances.
But the 32-year-old’s career has been blighted by a series of injury problems and he has started just one Premier League match in the last two seasons.
Oil Discovered in Anambra: Ngige, Soludo, Peter Obi, others Rejoice
In respect of the recent discovery and declaration of Anambra state as the 10th member of the oil producing states vide the commissioning of oil production facilities of the Orient Petroleum Resources at Aguleri by President Goodluck Jonathan, two former governors of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige, Mrs. Virgy Etiaba and a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, have described it as a blessing to the state.

Police Arrest Masquerade and 4 Others For Armed Robbery
Generally, Masqueraders are believed to be celestial beings that come into the world occasionally and expected to pray and entertain people who see them as ancestral spirits. But the reverse is that case for that of Sunday Osalusi, a masquerade bearer in Ekiti State.
His masquerade and four other men allegedly engaged policemen in gun duel during a robbery operation in Ado-Ekiti last Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer )PPRO) for the Ekiti State Command, ASP Victor Babayemi, while briefing journalists, said the bearer of the masquerade has been arrested and paraded with other members of his gang.
Delta State: Gov't Bans Okada Business With September Ending Ultimatum
It is definitely not a good time for motorcycle transport business operators popularly known as Okada riders in the country. Less than two days after the Lagos State operators of the business dragged the government to court over unfavourable traffic laws, their Delta State counterparts have been given September ending ultimatum to stop the running of Okada business in the state.
This was made known by the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who, on Tuesday, announced the ban of commercial motorcycles otherwise known as Okada in Asaba, the state capital and other major cities, with effect from this month.

Gunmen kills University of Ado Ekiti lecturer in Maiduguri
A lecturer at the University of Ado Ekiti, Abubakar Salihu has been killed by gunmen suspected to be members of the islamist sect, Boko Haram in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Borno state Commissioner of Police, Abdullahi Yuguda who confirmed the latest killing to journalists said the UNAD lecturer was killed with his friend,Mohammed Salisu the secretary of Bama local government area in the state.

Pastor Arrested and Jailed For Stealing A Goat Worth N3,000

The latest development is the case of Pastor Oloruntoba Ibitoye, who yesterday bagged a nine-month jail for stealing a sheep valued at N3,000 in front of the owner’s residence at Amoyo area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Ibitoye was charged before the Ilorin Magisterate’s Court.
According to the prosecution, the complainant, Mrs Florence Adebiyi, reported at the police station in Ganmo, near Ilorin, that the convict stole her sheep valued at N3,000 in front of her Amoyo residence.
The prosecution said the sheep was recovered from Ibitoye by the police.
He pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.

Obodoukwu Imoha, Nkerefi community in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu are yet to recover from the weekend shock. They are also yet to identify the reasons a young man allegedly went berserk and inflicted several machete cuts on his father, killing him instantly.
The suspect identified by the police as Chinedu Umahi, was said to have killed his father, Mr. Uwanuakwa Umahi while he was resting in his house about 6 pm on Saturday, September 1, with a sharp machete with which he gave him deep cuts in his body.

Impeach Rochas Okorocha Now: Jonathan Aide On Pollitical Matters.
Special Adviser to President GoodluckJonathan on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, has called for Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha’s impeachment by the state House of Assembly.
Gulak made the call for Okorocha’s removal after the 27 local government chairmen sacked by Okorocha submitted a letter of protest through him to the President in Abuja on Monday.
Okorocha fired the chairmen elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party during the Ikedi Ohakim administration on the grounds that their tenure had expired.

He is best known for his Oscar-nominated role as a death row inmate who possessed magical healing powers in the 1999 film, "The Green Mile".
"The Green Mile" was nominated for four Oscars in 2000 and won 15 other awards including best supporting actor trophies for Duncan from the Black Reel Awards and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards.
Before he broke into acting, Duncan worked as a bodyguard for stars including Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, and The Notorious B.I.G. -- whose 1997 death prompted him to quit that line of work.

Sun Myung Moon, a self-declared messiah who founded the controversial Unification Church which has millions of followers around the globe, died on Monday leaving a vast business empire and a legacy of mass weddings.
Church officials said Moon, 92, who had suffered complications from pneumonia, was taken to hospital in Seoul in mid-August and was moved to a hospital in a rural retreat last week when his family believed there was little chance of recovery.

He died on Monday (Sept 3,2012) at St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos.
Ola Vincent was born on 16 May 1925.
He was an economist and was Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria between 1977 and 1982.
Until his death, he was a director at Industrial And General Insurance Plc.

BREAKING NEWS: Fuel Tanker Explodes Near Abuja (PHOTOS)
A fuel tanker has exploded in Maje town, on the outskirts of Abuja, killing two people and destroying 29 buildings, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has said.
A statement by NEMA spokesperson, Yushau Shuaibu, said the tanker fell and then exploded, killing the two victims and injuring many others. Two of the 29 buildings destroyed were residential apartments while 27 were shops.
Mr. Shuaibu did not say how many people were injured in the incident. He only said the injured had been taken to hospital.

OMG: Commercial Bus Driver Kills Albino Girl During Gani Fawehinmi Rally in Lagos
Tragedy struck during the Gani Fawehinmi rally in Lagos when a commercial bus driver on Saturday killed an albino girl riding on the back of a bike along Kudirat Abiola way the Ikeja/Oregun/Ojota axis of Lagos and injuring two others while attempting to escape.
The tragedy occurred around 12.35pm as a yellow commuter bus was driving against the one-way traffic along Kudirat Abiola way, just opposite the lane to activists on a march to commemorate the death of prominent civil rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi.
The activists had begun their march from under the popular bridge along Obafemi Awolowo way in Ikeja with five police vans watching them closely.
