Chinese Tourist Swallows 2 Million Naira Diamond While Trying To Steal It

                           

A Chinese tourist suspected of swallowing a diamond worth 2 Million Naira ($13,600) was arrested on Wednesday by the Sri Lankan Police at the country’s biggest international gem and jewellery exhibition.

The suspect, Chow Cheng, 32, is believed to have swallowed the diamond as he inspected it at the exhibition, attended by buyers from China, Hong Kong, Thailand, India and Europe, police have said in a statement.

“His intention was to steal it,” Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana told Reuters. “The x-ray shows the diamond is in his throat.”

May D, the up and coming hip hop artiste who was sacked from Square Records owned by Psquare may soon seek redress in a court of law.

Some weeks ago, a statement signed by Jude Okoye, the elder brother of the Psquare, Square Records said they have terminated their contract with May D and would no longer have anything to do with his career. The statement also said Psquare, it agent or any of it rep would not entertain further questions on the development.

UNN Admission List 2012 Is Out

                                                   
The University of Nigeria (UNN) Nsukka has announced the release of 2012/2013 admission list. The registrar of the institution, Mr A.I Okonta disclosed that prospective students who wrote UTME and chose the school as their first and second choice should check UNN website for their names.


The procedure for registration was also stated by the university. Students admitted are expected to pay the sum of twenty five thousand naira (N25,000) as acceptance fee through First Bank and Diamond Bank.


However, university announced through it website www.unn.edu.ng that those who could not be admitted into their course of choice can still apply for some courses where vacancy still exist. This is available for those who took part in last JAMB exams and post UTME exams.

ANAMBRA State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Nasarawa must be having a relaxed mind, at least for now, as he has in his cell, the most wanted suspected kidnapping and armed robbery kingpin in Anambra State, 36 year -old Mr. Olisagbo Ifedike. 

For the few months he had been in charge of the state police command, Nasarawa had had his usual fair share of the proverbial Baptisimal fire from the men of the underworld in the state.

Man Arrested For Threat To Kill Barack Obama On Twitter

A man in North Carolina learned the hard way that Twitter can get you in trouble with the law. Donte Jamar Sims was arrested Wednesday (Sept. 5)  for using the social networking site to threaten to assassinate President Obama.

Sims—who calls himself Lupe Fiasco's #1 fan— sent out the tweets one day prior to the start of the Democratic National Convention, which commenced with a speech from the president, yesterday.  “Ima hit president Obama with that Lee Harvey Oswald swag,” he wrote, earlier in the week.

It was celebration galore as the players, officials and fans of Kano Pillars went wild on Friday evening, after their darling team were crowned and presented with the gold trophy as winners of the 2011/2012 Nigeria Premier League, NPL. 

Although, Pillars lost their last match of the season away to Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-1 at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, the team say they had a fulfilling season. 

"We are worthy champions, and this is a perfect occasion to receive our league trophy, Pillars' skipper, Theophilus Afelokhai said. 

Facebook Murder: Cynthia Osokogu's Burial Postponed

                           
The burial of Cynthia Udoka Osokogu, who was drugged and murdered in a hotel at FESTAC area of Lagos on July 22 by alleged Facebook friends, was on Friday postponed.

The postponement, according to family members, was necessitated by the advice of security agencies and medical experts.

Workers were already digging her grave when news about the postponement came and they were subsequently asked to stop.

The Ondo State Police Command is investigating three individuals in the state for allegedly killing their childhood friend for ritual.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspects are, Chief Babatunde Olumofe; a worker of 7up Bottling Company Limited, Ijora, Lagos State, Mr. Sunday Akeju; and another man identified simply as Eso.

The suspects and the victim, Mr. Olufemi Ogunkorede, were said to have built their personal houses near each other in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

FRSC Recovers 2 Corpses of Drowned Igbinedion Varsity Lecturers

                              

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Thursday recovered the remains of two out of the four lecturers of the Igbinedion University, who were drowned when the car they were travelling in crashed into River Ovia in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The recovery, however, came on the heels of complaints by the FRSC that the absence of heavy duty cranes was slowing down its rescue operation in recovering the other two bodies.

But, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the recovered bodies were those of the two male lecturers in the vehicle, while those of the female lecturers had not been recovered as at the time of filing this report.

Wailing colleagues of the lecturers had identified their bodies at the scene of the accident in Ekidolor.

A Pakistani judge has freed on bail a young Christian girl accused of blasphemy. While lawyers declared the decision a victory for justice, Christians from her village are still too scared to go home, VOA reports.

Supporters of 14-year-old Rimsha Masih, believed to be mentally impaired, gathered outside the courtroom to wait for the news.

Her arrest has caused widespread condemnation, both within Pakistan and outside, and has been followed by a rise of inter-communal tension within Pakistan.

Masih has spent three weeks in jail. Her release, lawyer Raja Akram Amin said, showed the justice system in Pakistan worked.

Yobe: Boko Haram Sets Governor’s Mother-In-Law’s House Ablaze

                                     

The Boko Haram rampage continued yesterday in Damaturu,Yobe State, with members of the sect setting the residence of the mother-in-law of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam ablaze.

That was less than 24 hours after giving a similar treatment to the masts of some telecommunication companies in the state capital and in Bauchi, Maiduguri, Kano and Potiskum.

The house was first attacked six months ago during which the occupants were robbed of their jewellery.

Police Commissioner Patrick Egbuniwe confirmed the incident.
