Female British Soldier on Afghan Duty Tour Gives Birth To A Baby Boy


A British soldier has given birth to a baby boy while serving in Afghanistan despite being unaware she was even pregnant. 

She gave birth at a field hospital at the Camp Bastion in Helmand province.

The Royal Artillery gunner, whose identity was not released, was admitted to hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. She gave birth to a baby boy, who was born prematurely after 34 weeks of pregnancy.

As the Members of the House of Representatives resumed from a two-month recess, the lawmakers have on Wednesday launched an agitation for a N7m increase in their quarterly allowances.
According to Punch newspaper, the lawmakers, each of whom currently enjoys N27m per quarter as allowances, now want the sum jerked up to N35m. As a result, Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, reportedly had a hectic time trying to calm his colleagues down at an executive session on Wednesday.

19-Year-Old Boy Stabs His Friend To Death

A 19-year-old boy, John Oweikabo, was Wednesday stabbed to death in a fight at the riverisde Obrigbene community in Ekeremor local government Area of Bayelsa State.

The incident  occurred at about 7.30pm  following  fisticuffs between the deceased and his close friend.
The late John was reportedly stabbed in the neck with a knife by his friend, Daniel Esamgbala, who later fled the community on realizing what he had done.

NUC Bans Re-Sit Exams In Universities


The National Universities Commission (NUC), the body charged with the responsibility of monitoring the activities of universities in the country, has banned the conduct of re-sit examinations in Nigerian universities.
The NUC, in a statement by its Chief Information Officer, Mrs Bukola Olatunji, in Abuja, on Wednesday, frowned on the discovery that some universities conduct supplementary examination for their students, in addition to regular semester examinations.

Arik Air Suspends Domestic Flights leaving Hundreds of Passengers Stranded

It has been reported that Arik Air, the Senate Committee on Aviation’s recommended national carrier, this morning suspended all its flights out of Lagos leaving passengers at the Murtala Muhammed Airport stranded.

Several accounts of the cause of the suspension has been reported in the media. some sources have it that all Arik Air flights have been grounded by labour unions over unpaid dues to them.

President Goodluck Jonathan has officially suspended the introduction of the N5,000 currency note in Nigeria.

A senior aide of Mr. Jonathan disclosed the policy reversal to online media Saharareporters in a telephone conversation today.

For organising prayer sessions for devotees and causing undue tension at Kaduna Prisons, condemned  founder  of Christian Praying Assembly, Rev. Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly known as Rev. King, has been transferred to  Kastina Prison.
Although prison authorities in Kaduna, Northcentral Nigeria, have not officially revealed his whereabouts, prison sources informed us  that he was moved to Katsina Prison because a large number of his church members including notable politicians, always visit him in Kaduna for prayers, which became a source of concern to the prison authorities.

A man, Obinna Nwobodo, who allegedly murdered his friend, Ken Elijah, in his room over a piano musical instrument during a scuffle and dumped his corpse at a site, has approached a church in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, to confess his sin. He was later arrested by the police.

The 23-year old Nwobodo was arrested after his confession at Lord’s Chosen Church at Ijeshatedo, that he murdered his friend.
The Enugu State-born Nwobodo allegedly killed Elijah in his house at Alako area, a suburb in Orile-Iganmu, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, after he hit him with an object and he fell down, collapsed and died.

Man Rapes Girl Inside Church Toilet

A 30-year-old man, Taoreed Oseni, was yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate's Court in Lagos for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year old girl, Azeez Titilayo.

Oseni was alleged to have raped Titilayo in a church toilet at Oshodi, a Lagos suburb.

The accused, whose residential address is unknown, is facing a one-count charge of rape.

Ovo Mayomi and his wife Juliet Ubiribo were convicted of fraud in 2010 after using an identity and immigration scam to falsely claim £43,000 in benefits.

FG To Hand Over Almajiri Schools to States by December


The Federal Government has pledged to hand over completed and furnished almajiri and girl-child schools to state governments for onward enrollment by December this year. 

The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike who invited all the almajiri, girl-child and furnishing contractors to a meeting in Abuja Tuesday, urged the contractors that were yet to complete the various contracts given to them to do so on or before November in order for the schools to be handed over latest by December this year. 

Lagos Govt Arrests Soldier, Driver on Third Mainland Bridge


The Lagos State Government's special security unit, Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, has arrested a lance corporal and a driver for driving against traffic. 
The soldier, Umaru Usman, and the driver, Sagir Abubakar, were arrested between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesday for driving a truck against traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge. 

Bakassi Youths Vow To Surpass Boko Haram


Enraged youths from the Bakassi area of Cross River State continued beating war drums on Tuesday, vowing to surpass the Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram, if the government failed to appeal its ceding.
The Bakassi community is seeking an appeal against the International Court of Justice 2002 ruling that gave Bakassi to neighbouring country, Cameroun. The window for such appeal is 10 years lapsing October 10.
“What is happening now in the northern part of the country is a child’s play because we will ensure justice is given to us,” a youth leader from the area under the aegis of Cross River State Political Network, Michael Nku, said during a protest at the National Assembly.

AMAZING: 19-Year-Old Teenage Girl Wins A Seat in Uganda's Parliament

A teenage girl fresh out of high school has won a seat in Uganda's parliament, adding to the ruling party's majority but embarrassing some who say her success lowers expectations of lawmakers in the East African country.

Proscovia Oromait, 19, contested elections deep in eastern Uganda to fill the seat left vacant after her father's death. 

President Yoweri Museveni's ruling party had been desperate for a win there, having lost seven in eight parliamentary by-elections this year.

The polls are widely seen as a test of Museveni's popularity, and some calculated that she would win with a sympathy vote. The result was Uganda's youngest lawmaker ever - and a boost for Museveni's party.

But some critics say the position is too much responsibility for a young girl.

Neighbours to Usman Inuwa who was caught with the corpse of a child in a suitcase in Maitama, Abuja have identified the dead child as Goodluck, his son.
The shocked neighbours described the boy as very smart and wondered what came over Inuwa that made him to kill his child.Inuwa, a welder, arrested with the corpse of the child in a suitcase last Saturday, is currently in police custody.

236 Kirikiri Prisons Inmates Regain Freedom

The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Philips yesterday released 233 inmates, majority of whom were awaiting trials at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos.
 This was part of the on-going new legal year programmes, and it was also a step to de-congest the prisons. Most of the lucky inmates have stayed for over 12 years.

A Nollywood actor, Rasaki Olaniyi, 45, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly robbing, Abayomi Arinde, of N2.6 million.

Olaniyi of No. 7, Aduke Salako St., Agbado, Lagos, was arraigned on four-count charges of robbery, stealing, conspiracy and impersonation.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nollywood Actress, Ngozi Nwosu, To Be Flown To India For Kidney Transplant, Needs Urgent Financial Help!!

 There’s big fear in the motion picture industry, globally known as Nollywood  over the  health of one of its leading actresses, Ngozi Nwosu as report says  she needs to be flown out of the country urgently for a kidney transplant in the shores of India.
GistNaija learnt that already, some of her colleagues such as Amaka Igwe, Biodun Aleja and Emma Oguguah, are raising funds and preparing to fly her out of Nigeria for the surgery.
According Biodun Aleja, Nwosu is currently bedridden and  they are making efforts to make sure she returns to the klieg lights.
He said: “We gave her some money yesterday to support the tests she is undergoing, and we will very likely take her to India very soon; that is why we are trying to raise funds for her. By the time she is done with the tests, we will be sure of the exact ailment, but I think it is kidney leakage or so,” he said.

A 13-year-old Florida boy whose life was plagued with violence and neglect went from victim to perpetrator when he allegedly beat to death his two-year-old half-brother and séxually assaulted another sibling.

The police in Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a man who allegedly defiled eight children. He is now being detained, awaiting arraignment in court.
The suspect, Mr. Temitope Alo was arrested on Saturday at Koloba area of Ayobo after the children allegedly confessed that he had raped them.
The eight victims, whose ages range from eight to 15 years were brought to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation,

Boko Haram members kill Ex-Prison Boss, Ibrahim Jarma Katagun


Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram yesterday night killed a retired Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Jarma Katagun, and two security aides in Azare, Bauchi state.

The gunmen shot at Mr. Katagun yesterday in his hometown of Azare, Bauchi State, as the former prisons official left a mosque. Critically wounded, he was taken to an undisclosed hospital for emergency treatment.

A 29-year-old HIV-positive man who sneaked into the house of a Chitungwiza music producer and r*ped his wife as the husband was busy recording in another room was yesterday sentenced to an effective 16 years in prison.

The 28-year-old woman tested HIV negative after the r*pe. Tawanda  (29) of the same town was convicted of unlawful entry, theft and r*pe.
