FORMER BANK PHB BOSS PAID 45 MILLION NAIRA AS TITHE TO HIS CHURCH!

An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecution witness has disclosed suprising information about how former Bank PHP Managing Director, Francis Atuche, diverted N45 million from the bank to pay tithes St Augustines and St Monicas catholic churches in Ibusa, Delta State.

The witness, Mr Bolaji Ogunsola, was the CEO of the PHB's mortgage banking subsidiary, and he disclosed how a bank account with no clear ownership but widely believed by bank employees to be Atuche's engaged in several dodgy financial transactions.

65-Year Old Nigerian Grandma Arrested With Cocaine

A 65-year old grandmother, who is also a mother of six, was on Wednesday arrested for alleged drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said Thursday.

NDLEA said the suspect, Hassan Fatimat Abike, was to board a British Airways plane at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, when she was arrested with substances suspected to be cocaine.

“Every arrangement appeared to have been made for a 65-year old grandmother to smuggle 1.740kg of cocaine into London in herbal syrup,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affaits.

Black Tuesday: 20 Die In Tanker Explosion In Niger State

It was indeed a black Tuesday in Kudu village, on the ever-busy Bida-Mokwa Road in Niger State following the death of 20 persons, including a police officer when petrol tanker crashed and exploded.
The tragedy, eyewitness said occurred when the fuel tanker lost control while trying to navigate through a very sharp corner in the village.

The source said that a policeman, in the process of trying to rescue some trapped victims allegedly lost his life while the tanker went up in flames.

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday Wednesday Sept 26th granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu. But the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.

The suspects granted bail – Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) – were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.

Nonso’s lawyer, Mr. J. C Ngobili, told the court that the accused was a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and prayed the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

France Immortalises Zidane Headbutt With Statue

The infamous headbutt that French football legend Zinedine Zidane landed on Marco Materazzi during a World Cup final has been transformed into a giant statue and displayed in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

The bronze work of art, simply titled “Headbutt”, was Wednesday attracting crowds of tourists and locals who jostled to have their photos taken in front of the five-metre (16-foot) statue.

The sculpture is by Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed, subject of a retrospective exhibition in the Pompidou from October 3 until next January.

“This statue goes against the tradition of making statues in honour of certain victories. It is an ode to defeat,” said exhibition organiser Alain Michaud.

One hundred and seventy-one, (171) female pilgrims were deported from Saudi Arabia today, arriving the Malam Aminu International Airport in Kano on wednesday afternoon.

The Federal Government however gave the Saudi Arabia government 24 hours to expedite action in resolving the issues surrounding the detention of over 1000 other female pilgrims from Nigeria.

AN eight-month-old pregnant woman, Mrs. Grace Nwangwu, was weekend, killed in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State while she was reportedly trying to steal some food crops in a farm near her house at midnight.

The woman was alleged to be sleeping on the same bed with her husband, Mgbebu till midnight when she left to ease herself outside but reportedly went to farm at Igbudu Community to harvest some food crops and was killed by her assailant.

It was dooms-day for three armed robbery suspects- Uche Okeagbu(23), Emmanuel Ezeani(23) and Chinonso Nwuangwu(23) as they were yesterday arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos, in connection with the September 9, 2012 robberies in the state, which left three policemen and a civilian dead.

Arik Air on Tuesday released a list of persons banned permanently from taking any of its operated flights to any destination.

Top on the list was the Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr George Uriesi. The reasons given for the ban range from fighting Arik staff, disrupting Arik flight operations, to being declared wanted by security agencies.

Lagos Bans LASTMA Officials From Driving Impounded Vehicles

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, on Tuesday said that officials of the State Traffic Management Authority had no right to drive impounded vehicles.

Opeifa made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

“It is unlawful for LASTMA official to drive vehicles that contravened the law, except the arrested motorist resisted arrest or has no driver’s licence, which is the only guarantee for any driver to be on the road.

A black Honda saloon car with registration number CY 691 LND on Tuesday fell off a bridge near Wuse Market, Abuja, killing the driver. The driver, a police corporal, died on the spot.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, who visited the scene, reports that the car knocked off the concrete embankment on the bridge before crashing into the ravine below.

Kwara State First Lady Gives Scholarship To 30 Children and Orphans

Wife of Nigeria’s Kwara State Governor, Omolewa Ahmed on Monday said that she would take full responsibility for the education of some 30 indigent primary school pupils in the state.

The First Lady disclosed this in Malete while flagging off the “Adopt a Child to School” programme promoted by her organisation, LEAH Charity Foundation.

While the pupils would remain with their parents, the foundation would take responsibility for their primary school education. The First Lady also added that the gesture was aimed at complementing the free and compulsory primary education policy of the state government.

3 Men Arrested for Kidnapping and Killing Lagos Businessman

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three men -Ogbuesor Sadiq, Abdulwahab Mutairu and Adenola Lanre- for the alleged kidnap and murder of a businessman, Akinsanjo Akinlade.

Akinlade was alleged murdered in Ogijo, a border town between Lagos and Ogun states on August 31, 2012.

According to police authorities, the suspects kidnapped, killed Akinlade and dumped his body in Ogijo.

A 35-year-old man, Azuka Mbadugbe, was on Monday docked before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his landlady’s eight pants valued 80 dollars (about N12,480).

Other items allegedly stolen by the accused include six leggies valued at 160 dollars (N24,960), one Canon camera phone worth N250,000 and 36 pieces of umbrella costing N12,600.

In a quite shocking report it was said that a nine-year-old boy, Daniel Kwaku Nyaatse has committed suicide at Adabraka, near the NTHC building in Accra.

According to his mother who gave her name as Millicent, there was nothing wrong with her son as at Saturday.

She told Citi News “we woke up this morning to find Kwaku hanging on a rope in front of our house.”

According to the deceased’s mother, there was no indication he was suffering from any abuse. She noted that he had not been bullied at any point in time while in school.

The body has since been deposited at the Ridge Hospital Morgue.

The world is seeing more of unbelievable things as UK mirror reports that a teenager was left behind in Portugal after he was thrown off a holiday flight for a furious mid-air fight with his step-dad.

Lee Doran, 17, was on his first trip abroad with half-brother Dylan, 14, stepfather David Laughton, 39, his partner Sarah Wilson, 28, and their son Harry, three, when he and David “rolled around the aisle” at 35,000ft.

The Thomson flight from Newcastle to Lanzarote had been in the air for more than three hours when the fracas forced the pilot to make an emergency landing in Porto.

The family was escorted off the plane and Lee was questioned by police.

While the rest of his party later boarded another plane to Lanzarote, Lee ended up outside the airport police station where he spent almost 24 hours without food or water.
