IG Takes Over Investigation Of Ugochukwu’s Death

                             

Following the un-ending controversy surrounding the mysterious killing of Mr. Ugochukwu Ozuah in Lagos on September 20, 2012, five days after his wedding, allegedly by men in Police uniform, Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the immediate take over of the case by a crack team of homicide investigators from Force Criminal Investigations Department, FCID, Abuja.

The high-powered investigation team from the FCID, which left Abuja, yesterday, is to immediately take-over the investigation of the case from the Lagos State Police Command, with the mandate to identify and fish out the killer(s).

Nigeria’s First Lady, Patience Jonathan, To Return Home Soon

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, is due back in the country soon as doctors at the Wiesbaden Hospital in Germany, where she is being treated for undisclosed illness, have certified her fit to return to the country.

National Mirror reliably gathered that Mrs. Jonathan successfully underwent surgery for appendicitis at the German hospital. “The First Lady is in a stable state. The doctors at the hospitals have confirmed her fitness but she needed more time to rest.

“I can tell you that she is now in good state after a successful surgery,” the source closed to the Presidency said.

The source could not, however, confirm the exact date Dame Patience would arrive Nigeria. She has been away for 34 days. “It is very soon.

Toniloba Obafemi, the 9 nine months old baby that was kidnapped on Sunday, September 23, 2012 by a church member at RCCG Parish, in Abuja  has been found in good health.

Toniloba and his kidnapper, Comfort Amos, were found in Benin after maximum investigations and tracking by family and friends with help from the police. Comfort's accomplice (both had jointly asked for well over N10million for the child) was caught in Auchi, Edo State and he led the police to Comfort who was with the child in Benin.

The gunman who opened fire inside a Minneapolis sign-making business killed four people before fatally shooting himself, police said early Friday.

The victims' bodies were found shortly after officers arrived at Accent Signage Systems Inc., located in a residential area in the city's north side, after receiving a 911 call Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from police spokesman Sgt. Stephen McCarty.

"When officers arrived and entered the business to assist with the evacuation of employees, give aid to the victims and to search for the suspect, they found four victims dead from apparent gunshot wounds," the statement said.

You Can Not Give Us Any Ultimatum: Saudi Sends Home Additional 510 Female Pilgrimsh

                              

It is now clear that there is more than meets the eyes as far as the issue of deportation of Nigerian female pilgrims from the Holy Land is concerned. 

In defiance to the ultimatum given to it by the Nigerian government on the issue, the Saudi authorities have deported another 510 female pilgrims reports say. 171 had earlier been deported on Wednesday.

The authorities of Saudi Arabia are insisting that the women were unaccompanied by male relations which was considered against laid down rules of the kingdom. But there seems to be more to it.

Police Announce Discovery of Bomb Factory in Kano

                              

The Police Command in Kano State on Thursday announced the discovery of a bomb factory at Hawan Hotoro Area in Kano metropolis.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ibrahim Idris, who confirmed this while briefing newsmen in Kano, said two suspected owners of the factory were arrested during the operation.


Idris told newsmen that assorted bomb manufacturing materials were also discovered during the operation.

NECO Releases SSCE Results, Records Improvement

                                

A remarkable improvement has been recorded in the results of the 2012 June/July Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) released by the National Examinations Council (NECO). The is the first of its kind in six years.

NECO’s Registrar, Professor Promise Okpala, while announcing the results, revealed that over 50 per cent of the over 1 million candidates that sat for the core subjects of English language, mathematics, economics and biology got credit passes and above.

Professor Okpala said there was a marked improvement in other core subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Government and Commerce as over 45 per cent of the candidates scored credit passes and above as against 15 per cent last year.

65-Year Old Nigerian Grandma Arrested With Cocaine

                          
A 65-year old grandmother, who is also a mother of six, was on Wednesday arrested for alleged drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said Thursday.


NDLEA said the suspect, Hassan Fatimat Abike, was to board a British Airways plane at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, when she was arrested with substances suspected to be cocaine.

“Every arrangement appeared to have been made for a 65-year old grandmother to smuggle 1.740kg of cocaine into London in herbal syrup,” said Mitchell Ofoyeju, NDLEA Head of Public Affaits.

It was indeed a black Tuesday in Kudu village, on the ever-busy Bida-Mokwa Road in Niger State following the death of 20 persons, including a police officer when petrol tanker crashed and exploded.

Cynthia’s Murder Update – Court Grants Two Suspects Bail, Remands Driver

A Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday Wednesday Sept 26th granted bail to two suspects arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Cynthia Osokogu. But the driver who was accused of driving the prime suspect to Cosmilla Hotel, FESTAC, was remanded in prison custody.

The suspects granted bail – Nonso Ezike (22), who is the younger brother to Olisaeloka, one of the alleged killers, and Ezeaka Chinonso (27) – were arrested by policemen at Area E for receiving and selling Cynthia’s BlackBerry phone.

Nonso’s lawyer, Mr. J. C Ngobili, told the court that the accused was a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and prayed the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

France Immortalises Zidane Headbutt With Statue

                                  

The infamous headbutt that French football legend Zinedine Zidane landed on Marco Materazzi during a World Cup final has been transformed into a giant statue and displayed in front of the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

The bronze work of art, simply titled “Headbutt”, was Wednesday attracting crowds of tourists and locals who jostled to have their photos taken in front of the five-metre (16-foot) statue.

                              

The sculpture is by Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed, subject of a retrospective exhibition in the Pompidou from October 3 until next January.

“This statue goes against the tradition of making statues in honour of certain victories. It is an ode to defeat,” said exhibition organiser Alain Michaud.

HAJJ CRISIS: Saudi Arabia Deports 171 Female Pilgrims, FG Gives Saudi Arabia 24hrs Ultimatum

                             

One hundred and seventy-one, (171) female pilgrims were deported from Saudi Arabia today, arriving the Malam Aminu International Airport in Kano on wednesday afternoon.

The Federal Government however gave the Saudi Arabia government 24 hours to expedite action in resolving the issues surrounding the detention of  over 1000 other female pilgrims from Nigeria.

Vice President Namadi Sambo gave the ultimatum when he summoned the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Khaled Abdrabuh, to his office.

An unidentified young man was electrocuted on Tuesday while trying to burgle a shop at number 22, Ezza Road, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.
It was learnt from a reliable source that the burglar and his accomplices who escaped, attempted gaining entrance into the shop known as ‘Variety Stores’ after they destroyed the outer burglary proof of the door.
