The Senate on Thursday,urged President Goodluck Jonathan to as a matter of urgency sack the Director-General, Security and Exchange Commission, SEC, Ms. Aruma Oteh.
According to the Senate, it will henceforth not have anything to do with the Commission if she(Ms. Aruma Oteh) remains as the head of SEC, just as it vowed that it threatened not to screen members of board of the Commission.

In a statement by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Capital Market, Senator Ayoade Ademola Adeseun, ACN, Oyo Central, the move by the Upper Chambers became imperative against the backdrop of the presidency reinstating the Director-General, describing it as a flagrant disregard of the resolution of the House of Representatives, after the House had earlier asked the President to sack her.

Nobel laureate, Professor Wale Soyinka has described the brutal murder of four students of the University of Port Harcourt as the height of man inhumanity to man.

Soyinka who spoke, Thursday, in Port Harcourt at the public presentation of Port Harcourt as UNESCO World Book capital for 2014 said it was so painful watching the video clips of how the students were butchered to death.

A  25-year-old unemployed man on Thursday appeared before Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, charged with the theft of a King James Version of the Bible valued at N1,000.

The accused, Ade Akindele, initially entered a “guilty” plea when the charge was read to him, but later changed to “not guilty.”

The prosecutor, ASP Friday Eze, said that the accused had no fixed residence but was staying at the mechanic garage on Aka Road, off Salami Street, Afromedia, Lagos.

Bomb Destroys Church Building in Bauchi

                                  

Another bomb blast occurred in two different parts within Bauchi metropolis on Wednesday night damaging part of the building of Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), in Zango area and another building at Tudun Hausawa without any casualty recorded.
The Bauchi state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lewi Pokti, who confirmed the incident, said the explosion at COCIN and Zango damaged the entire pulpit and parts of the church building which will require an entire reconstruction.

Abuja Demolition: RCCG, Winners Chapel Estates, 35 More To Be Demolished - FCTA

                          
Despite the controversy generated by the demolition of over 500 housing units by officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s department of development control in Lugbe 1 Extension, Gosa, recently, the FCT A says 37 more estates have been pencilled in for demolition.

There is no going back on the demolitions of the “illegal” structures, it said.
The development control department, on September 28 and 29, demolished about 500 housing units at Minanuel Estate. The demolition of the houses has received a lot of negative reactions from the media and various other stakeholders and rights activists.

The schoolgirl — real name Amber Jacobs — is playing at an event later this month where she will be crowned the youngest on the airwaves by Guinness World Records.

She has been DJ-ing for the last six months on internet station TBFM Online, with her dad Steve. Amber has a slot on her dad’s show every week, where she takes over the music playlist and introduces her own choice of tracks.

 

Amber from Pershore, Worcs, said: “I really enjoy playing my favourite songs and listening to bands I like. I like being in control of the desk and playing with the controls. I play rock music — I like it way more than anything on the X Factor.”

VIOLENCE: Angry Students protest in Osun State, Burn Oba's Palace, Vandalise Offices

                       

Violence erupted in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, on Tuesday, when students of Osun State College of Education, went on the rampage to protest the death of two of their colleagues killed an auto accident.

 

The deceased simply identified as Sodiq and Wale of the Department of Accounting and Arts respectively were on their way to receive lectures on a commercial motorcycle in when accident occurred.

 

The motorcyclist did not die but one of the students died on the spot while the other died on the way to the hospital.

 

It was gathered that the motorcycle suddenly ran into a heap of gravel along the road, throwing off the students while a vehicle coming on the opposite direction hit them.

 

The students, who blamed the Federal Road Safety Commission for not preventing the pouring of gravel along the road, stormed the FRSC unit in Ila, which they vandalised.

 

They later went to the residence of the Chairman, Ila-Orangun Local Government Council, Mr. Segun Awotunde, and vandalised it.

 

They also damaged the fence of the palace of the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, but a timely intervention of the police stopped the situation from degenerating.

The police on Tuesday announced a major breakthrough in their investigation into the lynching of four University of Port Harcourt students. The videotaped lynching of the students sparked outrage nationwide and the clip of the killings went viral on the Internet.

The IG disclosed the arrest during a security meeting with Chief Executive Officers and security officers of banks at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

 

“I want to announce that we have made a breakthrough in the Aluu killings. The two main suspects in the case have been arrested and they will be prosecuted,” he said. The arrest brings the number of suspects arrested by the police to 23.

Aluu 4 Killing : Coxson Lelebori, Prime Suspect, in Police Net

 Latest gist emerging from the police has revealed that Coxson Leleboric Lucky, one of the prime suspects in the “Aluu 4” killings might have been nabbed.

It will be recalled that the Police had disclosed on Monday that two prime suspects in the gruesome murder of four University of Port Harcourt Students through a mob action were on the run.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, Tuesday broke the cheering news that the two prime suspects have been arrested in Port Harcourt. 

Although, the police IG declined to give their names, a statement that emanated from his office on Monday giving an update of investigations into the killings had noted that one Coxson Lelebori Lucky who was the architect of the crises that led to the killing of the students, was on the run and that the Police was on his trail.

Prosecutors say a man accused of killing his grandmother in her Salt Lake City home stabbed her 111 times.

Twenty-one-year-old Zachary Cole Weston has been charged with aggravated murder, a capital offense, in the death of 84-year-old Joyce Dexter.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at Dexter's home on Oct. 3. According to court records released Friday, police found Weston standing over his grandmother while holding a bloody knife, and he had blood on his hands and clothing.

Weston also told investigators he had slit her in several places and removed several of her organs, according to court documents.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill declined to comment Friday to the Deseret News on a possible motive.

Aluu Killing Update: Police Arrests 21 Suspects

                           

The Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday said it has arrested 21 persons involved in the brutal killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The students were killed at Umokiri Aluu in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The police also announced its readiness to bring all those involved in the brutal act to book no matter how highly placed the persons may be in the society.
Among those in the police custody is the traditional ruler of the community, Alhaji Hassan Welewa, who reportedly incited the mob to unleash terror on the deceased students.

Also in the custody of the police are four indicted persons said to have been closely linked to the barbaric act.
They are Felemo Solomon, Cynthia Chinwo, Ozioma Abajuo and Chigizie Samuel Evans.

 Human rights groups and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) have called on the authorities of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, to reinstate a former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIPORT chapter, Dr. Andrew Efemini, as the Head of Department of Philosophy.

Efemini was removed as the HOD, shortly after participating in Tuesday’s protest at Choba Junction on the East-West Road, against the murder of four UNIPORT students at Omuokiri-Aluu in Ikwerre Local  Government Area on October 5. 
The four male victims were Biringa Chiadika Lordson, Year Two, Theatre Arts, U2010/1805036; Ugonna Kelechi Obuzor, Year Two, Geology, U2010/5565149 and Mike Lloyd Toku, Year Two, Civil Engineering, U2010/3010094 and Tekena Erikena, a certificate student in the Faculty of Education, who had not completed his registration before the gruesome murder.

 Father of one of the students murdered by a mob at Aluu, River State, Mr. Mike Toku, has described as a deliberate cover-up the continued denial by members of the community that they had no hand in the killing of his son, Lloyd.

Mr Toku insisted that his son and three other students of the University of Port Harcourt were tortured and killed by members of Omuokiri Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, Toku said it was unfortunate that the community that murdered his son could deny being involved in the act.

Bomb Explodes in Minna Motor Park

                              
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has exploded in Minna. The bomb exploded around the Gen Abdullsalami Motor park.

It was gathered that a car parked idly near the motor park had raised suspicion, prompting a passer-by to draw the attention of the police. 

The IED in the car exploded as soon as the police took over the area, before it could be diffused.
