Barely two weeks after four undergraduates of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) were murdered at Omuokiri-Aluu, three persons including another student of the institution have been shot dead at Choba, one of the university’s host communities.
Also killed in the Thursday night incident were the student’s girlfriend and a young man who had just completed his national service in Port Harcourt.
Agents of some political parties are allegedly bribing voters with money, textile fabrics, kerosene, buckets and other gifts.
Witnesses at different polling units alleged on Twitter that the party agents are trying to use the gifts to entice voters to support their candidates.
Writing under the Twitter handle, @solar_unique, a witness said in a report to the Independent National Electoral Commission that a Labour Party agent “called Mandela is currently distributing N100 notes at Ward 3, All Saints Grammar School, Ondo West Local Government Area.”
Nigerian Military Authorities has announced the arrest of a A high-profile member of the Boko Haram sect in the home of a senator in Maiduguri, Borno state.
“A high-profile Boko Haram commander, one Shuaibu Mohammed Bama, who has been on the list of wanted terrorists … was arrested by task force troops in a serving senator’s house …,” the statement said of the arrest on Thursday.

Nollywood actress, Oge Okoye has been honoured with a doctorate degree by Wisconsin International University, USA. The beautiful actress was awarded today, Friday, October 19, 2012 at an event held at The Auditorium, NECA House, Central Business District, Ikeja, Lagos.
She disclosed that her role in the film ‘Fulani’, gave her the honour that was bestowed on her yesterday. An elated Oge Okoye revealed that she is very happy to be honoured by the American university.
When asked how she would prefer to be addressed; either Oge Okoye or Dr Oge Okoye, the actress said she would prefer both.

Contrary to speculations that veteran actor, Enebeli Elebuwa’s health may have worsened due to the silence from his end, the actor has said that he is well.

Nobel laureate, Professor Wale Soyinka has described the brutal murder of four students of the University of Port Harcourt as the height of man inhumanity to man.
Soyinka who spoke, Thursday, in Port Harcourt at the public presentation of Port Harcourt as UNESCO World Book capital for 2014 said it was so painful watching the video clips of how the students were butchered to death.
Another worrisome thing according to him, was that the killing took place before silent spectators and passive participants in the community.
A 25-year-old unemployed man on Thursday appeared before Ojo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, charged with the theft of a King James Version of the Bible valued at N1,000.
The accused, Ade Akindele, initially entered a “guilty” plea when the charge was read to him, but later changed to “not guilty.”
The prosecutor, ASP Friday Eze, said that the accused had no fixed residence but was staying at the mechanic garage on Aka Road, off Salami Street, Afromedia, Lagos.

Another bomb blast occurred in two different parts within Bauchi metropolis on Wednesday night damaging part of the building of Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN), in Zango area and another building at Tudun Hausawa without any casualty recorded.
The Bauchi state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Lewi Pokti, who confirmed the incident, said the explosion at COCIN and Zango damaged the entire pulpit and parts of the church building which will require an entire reconstruction.
John Terry has finally said sorry for racially abusing Anton Ferdinand and has accepted the four game ban and £220,000 fine from the FA.
By accepting the ban it means he will miss two games against Rio Ferdinand’s Manchester United and also the Kick It Out week of action which takes place this weekend.

Mr. Frank Mba, the force Public Relations officer today, Wednesday the 17th of October 2012 in an interview monitored Channels TV Sunrise Daily said the Sergeant dismissed from the police known as Lucky Orji is among the 13 persons to be charged to court today ; the dismissed policeman alongside was said to have stumbled upon the angry mob beating the students, Mba said.

The schoolgirl — real name Amber Jacobs — is playing at an event later this month where she will be crowned the youngest on the airwaves by Guinness World Records.
She has been DJ-ing for the last six months on internet station TBFM Online, with her dad Steve. Amber has a slot on her dad’s show every week, where she takes over the music playlist and introduces her own choice of tracks.
Amber from Pershore, Worcs, said: “I really enjoy playing my favourite songs and listening to bands I like. I like being in control of the desk and playing with the controls. I play rock music — I like it way more than anything on the X Factor.”
Dad Steve said: “During her section within the show she has full control. She chooses the music, cues the tracks and speaks in between songs. She mostly talks about music, her favourite bands and what she’s been up to at school with her friends. She genuinely enjoys doing the show. She dances around in the studio and has a lot of fun.”
He added: “The feedback has been brilliant. She’s a natural. But when she’s not live on air, she’s just a regular six-year-old girl and likes watching SpongeBob Square Pants.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken so many records, but he’s not done yet with record breaking. He intends to break as many records as his longevity would allow.
After getting over 50 million likes on Facebook, and over 13 million followers on Twitter, Cristiano Ronaldo is now regarded as the most popular footballer and the first sportsman to reach the 50 million likes mark on Facebook.
Speaking on his record-breaking feat, Ronaldo appreciated his fans for always being there.
“Reaching 50.000.000 likes on Facebook is unbelievable …I want to thank you, you you, you and everyone who have been supporting me all these years,” Ronaldo posted on his whosay.com page.
“I really want us to keep sharing all the good moments together – and the best is still to come. THANK YOU ALL.”
As much as Ronaldo is happy with his achievements, nothing would make him happier now that winning the Ballon d’or which most followers of the game of football are indecisive on who deserves it; Ronaldo or Messi.
