 A two-day old baby abandoned by an unknown mother was found dead behind the Medical Students Hostel, University of Calabar near the office of the Cross River State first lady, Mrs. Obioma Liyel-Imoke.

Mrs. Imoke in the last five years had been waging war against teenage pregnancy and child abandonment through her pets’ projects and had been able to put a stop to rampant baby abandonment in the state despite alleged campaign of calumny carried recently against her.

Speaking at the scene where the dead baby was abandoned, special assistant to the Governor on Public Health/ NGO and Special Projects, Dr. Regina Ejemot-Nwadiaro said her attention was drawn to the incident by an anonymous caller which prompted her presence at the scene.

30-Year-Old Prophetess, Folashade Esther, Set Ablaze While Celebrating Trance

                                

She was a paragon of beauty not long ago. She now wears a new but frightening look. But when 30 year-old Prophetess Folashade Esther Ogunseye of the Celestial Church Genesis Model Parish Agbado, Ogun state went into trance for seven days sometime in July this year, she warned her church members not to celebrate the feat for her.

But they would have none of that as they insisted on rolling out the drums. So on the fateful day, they prepared food and practically dragged her to the church where they danced round her to celebrate the spiritual feat.

In the midst of the celebration, one of the church workers called Elijah allegedly sprayed perfume known in celestial parlance as Ona La on the dancers without taking cognizance of lighted candles which some of them were holding.

Alas the perfume caught fire and Sade was set ablaze along with three other members who had joined in the celebration. A pastor in the church who had come to rescue them was also affected by the fire.

Lil’ Wayne On Doctor-Mandated Rest at Home After Death Scare

                   

Rapper Lil Wayne is currently home on doctor-mandated rest because over the last few days, he has been suffering from severe migraine and dehydration.  

The 30-year-old rapper was hospitalized on October 25, 2012 after falling ill aboard his private jet. It was initially reported that he had suffered a stroke but the fears have been calmed.

Lil Weezy was treated in Texas where his plane made its emergency landing.

He is currently busy preparing for the December release of his new album, I Am Not a Human Being II.

Nigerian Man Found Dead in Arik Air's Undercarriage

The dead body of a young Nigerian man was discovered yesterday Friday October 26th in the wheel well, the undercarriage compartment of an Arik Air aircraft, after it returned from a flight to New York, United States.

Apparently, The deceased hid himself in the wheel Compartment for days and was crushed to death while the flight was airborne to the JF Kennedy Airport, New York, from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

An official who spoke to Journalist said the dead body was found during a check on the aircraft panel as it was being prepared for another

19 People Die as Muslims Celebrate Eid-el-Kabir

                     

No fewer than 19 people were killed in two separate auto-crashes in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital during this year’s Sallah celebration. 

Three people were burnt to ashes Friday morning in the state capital while 16 others died in a separate multiple crash involving a trailer and a commuter bus at Osin River Community, a suburb of Ilorin at the beginning of the festivity on Wednesday.

Kwara State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Ola Ademoluti, confirmed the incident, saying that the three people were burnt to ashes on Sallah morning in Ilorin.

Suspected Boko Haram Militants Snatch Yobe State TV crew’s van

                     

In Yobe state, gunmen suspected to be some Islamist sects snatched the Yobe state Television (YTV) crew van at gunpoint near Mamudu on the Damaturu-Potiskum road, while travelling for an official assignment at the Yobe Turkish College, Mamudo by 9.45am on Friday.

Confirming the incident, the general manager of YTV, Alhaji Gambo Ibbi said that the gunmen snatched the crew van this morning (Friday), while the reporters were travelling to the Turkish College for an official assignment.

Nigerian Mathematician Wins Research Award In Malaysia

A lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Bayero University, Kano(BUK) Dr. Waziri Muhammad from Gashua in Yobe State has received the best PhD graduating student award in his research on Diagonal Quasi-Newton’s Method for Large-Scale systems of Non-linear equations.

The award was given at the 36th University Putra Malaysia’s convocation ceremony on October 12, 2012, in Malaysia.

The convocation was attended by eminent scientists and graduate students from UK, US, Italy, Spain, Russia, Holland, India, Iran, Nigeria, and other countries.
Waziri said the primary objective of his research was to reduce computational cost and matrix storage requirement and eliminate the need to solve Newtonian method for solving systems of nonlinear equations in large-scale problems.

Third Mainland Bridge To Be Reopened On November 6

                      

The Federal Ministry of Works, on Thursday, disclosed that the Third Mainland Bridge will be fully opened to traffic from November 6, as scheduled by the contractor, Borini Prono.

The Director, South-west, Federal Ministry of Works, Ejike Mgbemena, disclosed that according to the work plan made available by the contractor, the bridge would have been opened for use last week because work was ahead of schedule but due to the contractor’s inability to apply some finishing touches, the opening was postponed.

World’s Biggest Bra Put Up For Auction

   

The world's biggest bra is being auctioned for a breast cancer charity. Although, technically, the record-setting bra isn't even the largest cup available.

How is that possible? Well, the bra, modeled on a 34B T-shirt bra, is actually a "mega 1,360B" that is nearly as big as two tennis courts and weighs as much as 1,800 traditional bras.

"Our aim in auctioning the bra is to build awareness and involvement in Wear It Pink Day as well as raise money for Breast Cancer Campaign in the process," said the director of Chillisauce.co.uk, Adrian Simpson, whose group is auctioning off the bra.

The bra is being auctioned on eBay with a starting bid of £500 (U.S. $800.30). The auction continues through October 28, 2012.

Epileptic Student Dies During Vigil, 19-Year-Old Physically Challenged Pastor Arrested

                                              

Police in Iree have arrested 19-year-old Adebayo Kehinde over the death of a member of the church, by name  Tobi, during an anointing vigil service in the church at Iree, Osun State.

According to reports, on October 5, 2012, Kehinde alongside other pastors had organized a vigil which the 23-year-old Tobi attended.

During the ministration, Tobi who is a sickler and epileptic fell and it was assumed that he had fallen under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

However it was discovered at the wee hours of the next day that on the floor lay the lifeless body of Tobi who had experienced epileptic convulsions during the midnight prayers and had died in the process.

It was further reported that Tobi’s landlord alerted the police who arrested Kehinde at the Iree police station. Few days after receiving bail, he was rearrested and transferred to the Osun State Criminal Investigation Department Command.

While addressing news men, the Police Spokesperson for the state, Sade Odoro, denied reports that the teenage pastor was being held in their custody claiming that the parents of the deceased did not make the case a criminal one since they knew the health condition of their child.

However, further investigations according to reports also revealed that Kehinde was truly being held by the State police.

Six-Man-Hired Assassins Arrested In Nassarwa

                        

Six persons suspected to be members of a hired assassin gang in Lafia, Nassarawa State were recently apprehended by police in the state.

According to the state’s police spokesman, DSP Michael Adah, the suspects where caught in their attempt to kill one Mr Anthony Eze, a businessman in Keana area of Lafia.

It was reported that the suspects met their doomsday when residents suspected their movement and alerted the police. They were arrested while on their way to the mission.   A locally made pistol, two cartridges and the sum of N25.890 was recovered from the gang.

An Indian man Ashutosh Gupta is wanted by the police for allegedly killing his 25-year-old wife Pravartika Gupta and burning his 13-months-old daughter on October 6, 2012 at a flat in the NDMC apartments in Sarojini Nagar, India.

According to Hindustan Times, Ashutosh and his father allegedly burnt his wife to death owing to some disputes over dowry payment as well as her birth of a female child instead of a male. Although the infant did not die, she is reported  to have sustained about 55 percent burn injuries on her body.

UPDATE: Gov Suntai Flown to Germany for Medical Treatment

                         

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State, involved in a plane crash in Yola on Thursday, has been evacuated from the Yola Specialist Hospital, where he was receiving treatment, to enroute Germany.

The Ambulance conveying him and other medical personnels attending to him departed the hospital for the Yola international airport, at about 12.15pm, under heavy security.

A medical source, however, is being quoted as having said that he was in a stable condition. He said the Governor sustained fracture on his right hand and some facial bruises.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan Friday afternoon visited Governor Suntai at the National Hospital, Abuja before his departure to Germany.

EXPOSED: How The Presidency Misled The Whole Country, Pronouncing Gov. Danbaba Suntai Dead

A misleading tweet by an official of the Nigerian Presidency helped fueled nationwide speculation Thursday that Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba died in a plane crash.

Anxiety had mounted over the fate of the occupants of the ill-fated plane after the story broke that six passengers and crew, including Mr. Suntai, were aboard the small jetliner which crashed Thursday evening close to the NNPC depot in Yola.

But rather than help defuse the tension over the crash, which came less than five months after a Lagos-bound Dana-operated aircraft from Abuja crashed into a two-storey building in Lagos, killing all 153 passengers, and 10 others on the ground, the presidency added to the confusion, pronouncing the governor dead without getting confirmation from officials on ground in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

“May the soul of the late departed Governor, Danbaba Suntai, of Taraba State rest in peace and may God grant the state peace this trying time,” the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Reno Omokri, said via his twitter handle, @renoomokri.

Settlement Plea: Police Appeal To Family Of Slain Girl

                     

Following the clamour of the family of Lucy Ukpong, a sales girl that was shot dead by policemen from the FCT Police Command, for compensation or judicial process, the police have pleaded for an amicable settlement of the matter.

Reports say the parents of the deceased and other relations had met with some police officers over the killing of the girl, but the meeting was not conclusive on how the matter should be resolved.

According to reports, the family was considering letting the court settle the matter or better still get compensation from the police. This revelation came just as the family had concluded plans to take Lucy’s remains from Garki Hospital today for burial in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday.

LASG: 107 Killed In Two Years From Okada Accidents

                       

In a bid to convince people of the necessity of the Okada ban on some Lagos roads, the Lagos State Government has said no fewer than 619 people were either killed or seriously injured in commercial motorcycle accidents across the state in the last two years.

Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, said in a statement that records from the Planning and Research Department of LASTMA showed that out of the number, 107 people died while 512 sustained serious injuries as a result of the accidents.

“Details of the accidents between January 2011 and October 2012 further revealed that a total of 442 commercial motorcycles, popularly called okada, were involved in accidents across the state during the period out of which 271 occurred in 2011 while 171 occurred in 2012.

FG To Issue 50 Million National ID Cards Free

                               

Director-General, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Dr. Chris Onyemenan has promised Nigerians that the Federal Government (FG) will bear the cost of providing the first 50 million national identity cards.

Dr Chris Onyemenan said this while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos. He added that the cards would be issued free to Nigerians to guarantee the success of the project.

“The first 50 million cards would be free as the Federal Government will pay for them. Most of the projects undertaken for the successful management of the national identity scheme are at the implementation stage. We will issue the national identity number (NIN) that would not only be 11 digits but would be randomly generated to safeguard the identities of Nigerians,” he said.

“The government has released N12billion out of N30billion budgeted for NIMC,” he added.

She, however, appreciated God for the gift of life, thanked her immediate family and Nigerians for praying for her.

President Goodluck Jonathan, after presenting a gift to his wife, described her as a shining star in his life and thanked God for granting her good health.

The event was marked with thanksgiving prayers and presentation of gifts by family, well-wishers and friends.

Serious allegations of fraud are trailing the recruitment of 500 teachers in Edo State by the State Post-Primary Education Board, following reports that applicants were asked to pay N200,000 to be recruited.

Recently, it was gathered that in order to engage the services of enough teachers in secondary schools in the state, Governor Adams Oshiomhole directed the Board to recruit 500 teachers who would teach science subjects, English and Mathematics. Consequently, the vacancies were advertised and over 11,000 persons were said to have applied for employment.
