Chika Unigwe is the winner of this year’s NLNG prize for Literature. Following the announcement today, Unigwe would be carting home the $100,000 (US Dollars) cash prize.
The Nigerian author is married and she is based in Belgium. Aside the prize other pecks that follows the prize will also fast track the rising profile of Unigwe, GistNaija.com gathered.
Born in 1974, Chika Unigwe attended the University of Nigeria. She holds a PHD in Literature from the University of Leiden in Netherlands. In 2003, she was shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing.
Unigwe beats other contenders such as Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka’s daughter-in-law, Lola Shoneyin, Jude Dibia, Kaine Agary, Ngozi Achebe, Olushola Olugbesan, Onuora Nzekwu and Vincent Egbuson.
