Messi Becomes A Dad But Still Ready To Play

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi announced Friday the birth of his first child, Thiago, although the club says he will still play on Saturday.

Messi's partner, Antonella Roccuzzo, delivered their son at the Dexeus hospital about 700 metres (less than half a mile) from Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium.

"Today I am the happiest man in the world, my son was born and thanks to God for this gift! Thanks to my family for the support! A hug to everyone," the 25-year-old Argentine said on his Facebook page.

A retired Nigerian general, Mohammed Shuwa, who was a key figure in the 1960s civil war, was on Friday shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home in the restive northeastern city of Maiduguri, the military said.

“Four men initially thought to be his visitors… entered his house and opened fire on the general and his guests.

One of the guests died on the spot while the general died on the way” to the hospital, said Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa.

In an interview at his home in May, Shuwa told AFP that he could potentially be targetted by Boko Haram Islamists who have carried out scores of attacks in the city, which is considered their home base.

The bad blood could reportedly be traced to the explosive hours long interview of Dbanj on a Cool FM programme (The Road Show) anchored by Freeze last month.

Intermittently, Freeze was alleged to have made sarcastic jokes targetted at the Mavin boss while the programme lasted – a move the reserved Don Jazzy was not too comfortable with hence the latest war of tweets.

A source at Cool FM reveals that ‘Freeze hasn’t hesitated to show his support for D’banj, he basically doesn’t care what Don Jazzy thinks, I guess he’s pitching himself with who seems to be looking more successfull right now. It’s nothing personal though.’

Nollywood Ranked Third In The World With Revenue Of N126 Billion

Nigeria’s film industry, otherwise known as Nollywood, has reportedly generated about N126.4bn ($800m) in the last three years, making it the third highest revenue earner in the world.

Ex-Councillor Stabs Teenager for Refusing His Sexual Advances

A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his advances at a night club.

PUNCH Metro learnt that on October 26, Mariam Abubakar went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.”

Her friend, who pleaded anonymity, said they only went there “to hang out” when Babatunde, who was obviously drunk, started to make advances to Mariam Abubakar.

She said, “She was not interested in him so she did not answer when he called her. He was dancing and Mariam (Abubakar) was sitting at a table. He was obviously drunk and he came to pull her.

Some policemen reportedly took the enforcement of the Lagos Traffic Law to the extreme on Wednesday as they allegedly beat an unidentified okada rider and stripped him naked in Akoka, Lagos.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was caught while riding at the junction of University Road and St. Finbarr’s College Road in Akoka.

He stated that the man was plying the route oblivious that plain-clothes policemen had laid ambush in a van with registration number NPF9544B, in the area.

She literally walked into a maelstrom, triggered by reports online  that she was arrested by the London Metropolitan Police.

Understandably, she devoted her press  conference at the Murtala Muhammed Airport to debunk the reports.

Brian Garret Joseph, 38, and the student started the relationship when she was a minor and attending the high school, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies.

Joseph resigned from his position at the Chaffey Joint Union High School District school on Tuesday after making bail.

Bishop David Oyedepo, the Chancellor of Covenant University, has said that the university will kick off studies in law and medicine before the end of 2014.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole in continuation of his unscheduled visits to educational institutions in Edo State, ordered the immediate promotion of three school teachers after one of such visits yesterday.

In an opposite action, he also directed the demotion of the principal of Annunciation Catholic Junior Secondary School, Irrua, in Esan Central Local Government Area for alleged incompetence.

“It gives me some confidence to find all is not lost” the governor said, while on an on-the-spot assessment of attendance and punctuality of teachers in schools at Edo Central.

Seven persons were yesterday burnt to death in an auto crash along Agbor-Abavo-Asaba highway.

National president of Ijaw People Development Initiative, , IPDI, Comrade Austin Ozobo who witnessed the accident said the accident occurred at about 3.40 pm, adding that there were four survivors, who were rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

“A bus carrying about 11 passengers reportedly collided with a Peugeot J5 bus, which lost control.

“It is quite disturbing. I saw human beings burning alive and there was nothing anybody could do to stop the fire.

“Immediately it happened, there was an explosion and the bus caught fire. There was no fire service, even when the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC officials, came later, nobody could do anything. People were just watching until they were burnt. There were only four survivors,” he said.

Latest gist reaching us says Nollywood veteran actor, Pete Eneh has lost on eof his legs to illness.

Doctors at Parklane Hospital Enugu had no choice but to amputate one of his legs in order to save his life.

Popular Nollywood Actor, Pete Eneh was said to have sustained some kind of injury last year, and because he didn’t take proper care of it, it led to serious infection that became hard to treat.

The injury was said to have degenerated to a sore and because Mr Eneh was diabetic, it refused to heal. He spent three months at the hospital before he was advised to amputate the leg before the infection spread to other parts of his body.

The amputation took place on Wednesday October 24th after all efforts to save the leg was unsuccessful. Pete Eneh is said to be dealing with it well.

Suspected Boko Haram members admitted killing policemen in Niger – CP

Suspected members of the dreaded Islamist sect – Boko Haram who were nabbed in Minna, the Niger State capital recently by the police in connection with two bomb factories in Maitumbi and Tunga in Bosso and Chanchaga Local Government Areas of the state, have admitted to the killing of policemen in the turbulent state.

This was made known by the Niger State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Nsirim in an interactive session with the management staff of the state Ministry of Livestock/Fisheries, led by its commissioner, Dr Isah Yahaya Vatsa, during her familiarisation tour of the ministry.

The police boss added that the suspects had since been transferred from the Force headquarters in Abuja.

He said that such clubs had compounded the eroding morality of the youths and warned that the government would no longer condone their destructive activities.
