Messi Becomes A Dad But Still Ready To Play

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi announced Friday the birth of his first child, Thiago, although the club says he will still play on Saturday.

Messi's partner, Antonella Roccuzzo, delivered their son at the Dexeus hospital about 700 metres (less than half a mile) from Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium.
"Today I am the happiest man in the world, my son was born and thanks to God for this gift! Thanks to my family for the support! A hug to everyone," the 25-year-old Argentine said on his Facebook page.

Gunmen Killed Retired General In Maiduguri

A retired Nigerian general, Mohammed Shuwa, who was a key figure in the 1960s civil war, was on Friday shot dead by unknown gunmen at his home in the restive northeastern city of Maiduguri, the military said.

“Four men initially thought to be his visitors… entered his house and opened fire on the general and his guests.

One of the guests died on the spot while the general died on the way” to the hospital, said Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa.

In an interview at his home in May, Shuwa told AFP that he could potentially be targetted by Boko Haram Islamists who have carried out scores of attacks in the city, which is considered their home base.

CPC Distances Gen. Buhari From Boko Haram/FG Parley [Press Statement]


Following the alleged naming of General Muhammadu Buhari, the CPC flag bearer in the last general elections by radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram, as a mediator in its face-off with the Federal Government, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, has dissociated itself and its national leader, Buhari, from the talks.

Don Jazzy and Freeze Diss Each Other On Twitter

Don Jazzy and OAP Ifedayo Olarinde popularly called ‘Freeze’ on Cool FM have both diss each other on twitter.

The bad blood could reportedly be traced to the explosive hours long interview of Dbanj on a Cool FM programme (The Road Show) anchored by Freeze last month.

Intermittently, Freeze was alleged to have made sarcastic jokes targetted at the Mavin boss while the programme lasted – a move the reserved Don Jazzy was not too comfortable with hence the latest war of tweets.

A source at Cool FM reveals that ‘Freeze hasn’t hesitated to show his support for D’banj, he basically doesn’t care what Don Jazzy thinks, I guess he’s pitching himself with who seems to be looking more successfull right now. It’s nothing personal though.’

Nollywood Ranked Third In The World With Revenue Of N126 Billion

Nigeria’s film industry, otherwise known as Nollywood, has reportedly generated about N126.4bn ($800m) in the last three years, making it the third highest revenue earner in the world.

Ex-Councillor Stabs Teenager for Refusing His Sexual Advances


A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his advances at a night club.

PUNCH Metro learnt that on October 26, Mariam Abubakar went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.”
Her friend, who pleaded anonymity, said they only went there “to hang out” when Babatunde, who was obviously drunk, started to make advances to Mariam Abubakar.
She said, “She was not interested in him so she did not answer when he called her. He was dancing and Mariam (Abubakar) was sitting at a table. He was obviously drunk and he came to pull her.

Okada Rider Beaten and Stripped Naked By Policemen (Photos)


Some policemen reportedly took the enforcement of the Lagos Traffic Law to the extreme on Wednesday as they allegedly beat an unidentified okada rider and stripped him naked in Akoka, Lagos.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the victim was caught while riding at the junction of University Road and St. Finbarr’s College Road in Akoka.

He stated that the man was plying the route oblivious that plain-clothes policemen had laid ambush in a van with registration number NPF9544B, in the area.

Members of Jama’atul Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad also known as Boko Haram have said they are now willing to cease fire and stop all atrocities being perpetrated by their group and work against other existing groups if the State and Federal Government will truly heed to their demands.
The acclaimed spokesman of the group, Abu Mohammed Ibn Abdulazeez, who doubles as the second-in-command (Amir) to their leader Imam Abubakar Shekau revealed this in a tele-conference with journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday stating that if the state and the federal government want the group to seize fire completely, then former Borno state governor Ali Modu Sheriff must be arrested and prosecuted according to the law of the land.
He also said that apart from the arrest of Senator Ali Sheriff, government should compensate the group and rebuild their places of worship which were destroyed during 2009 uprising.

Tribune Newspaper Sacks 160 Workers

Not less than 160 staff of African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) PLC, publishers of the Tribune titles, based in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria have been sacked, barely one month after the appointment of Mr. Edward Dickson as the new Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the company.

A source was informed by an insider that management of the company felt it was necessary to reduce the excessive staff strength estimated at 700 which they felt was too much.
He said “they went to other newspapers and found out that their staff strength are far less than our own. They claimed that they went to a Lagos- based newspaper and found out that they employed not more than 300 staff and they do not see the reason why they should have 700 staff.”
