The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde has said that the proposed Computer Based Test (CBT) which will enable candidates write their examination on-line, will commence from 2013.

Professor Dibu Ojerinde disclosed this in Kaduna yesterday when he led his management team and staff of the board on an advocacy visit over the proposed Computer Based Test (CBT) to Kaduna State.

According to the JAMB registrar, who led the advocacy visit to Kaduna State Ministry of Education, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna Polytechnic and National Teachers Institute (NTI), the board will also ensure uninterrupted power supply during the examination.

He said although UTME candidates for 2013 will have options of Paper Pencil Test (PPT) and Dual Based Test (computer and paper), the board will begin full blown computer based testing by 2015.

“From now on, with the use of Computer Based Testing (CBT), candidates will get their result within 30 minutes after the examination. It will also address cases of result black out and examination malpractice,” he said.

Adams Oshiomhole Dissolves Edo State Cabinet

The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole on Friday dissolved the State Executive Council.

Mr Oshiomhole, while addressing the commissioners at a valedictory EXCO meeting in Benin City, the Edo State capital, said working with them in the last four years has provided good leadership for the people which led to his re-election.

The state Attorney-general and Commissioner for Justice, Osagie Obayuwana thanked the Governor for giving them the opportunity to serve and described the experience as a school of leadership for them.

Gunmen on Friday attacked the Divisional Police Station in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe and killed three policemen.

Lt. Eli Lazarus, spokesman of the Joint Task Force security outfit in Yobe, confirmed the killings in a statement in Damaturu.

The statement said, “in the early hours of today, gunmen attacked the Divisional Police Station at Buni Yadi and three policemen were killed with some arms carted away.”

Confirmed report has it that a student of the University of Ibadan (UI), who was dumped by her boyfriend, has drank bleach in anger.

A top Boko Haram commander, Sani Mohammed has reportedly escaped from police custody in Abuja on Thursday.

The suspect who was arrested with another Boko Haram operative, Kabir Sokoto in January, 2012, allegedly escaped from the cell where he was kept with other terror suspects.

Though, the Force Headquarters claimed that no terror suspect escaped, security sources confirmed that Mohammed absconded from custody.

The details of his escape was however sketchy as at the time of filing this report.

The Otedola-Farouk $620,000 bribe scandal took a new twist on Thursday with the mention in court of a N250bn libel suit instituted by Femi Otedola against the National Assembly; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; and the lawmaker, Farouk Lawan.

In the case, Otedola is asking Justice Peter Kekemeke of an Abuja High Court to order the respondents to pay him the sum for the loss of goodwill and patronage he suffered as a result of their actions in the course of a probe into the management of fuel subsidy regime in the country.

Otedola and his company, Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited, told the court that they had suffered grave injuries to their reputation and business image, resulting in the substantial loss of goodwill, built over the years, because of the actions of the defendants.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said the reported willingness of Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to discuss with the Federal Government should not be taken seriously, as the sect is incapable of dialogue.

Pastor Arrested For Raping Young Girl 8 Times, Claims He Was Strengthening Her Holy Spirit

Pastor Wilson Duncan Kwambana, founder and pastor of Mount Olives Church, allegedly raped a congregant several times claiming to be strengthening her Holy Spirit, a court heard.

Pastor Kwambana, 32, yesterday appeared before the magistrate court facing eight counts of rape. The pastor allegedly told the 22-year-old mechanical engineering student that she had a very bad evil spirit in her.

The pastor later told the girl that the Holy Spirit had chosen a husband for her, and the husband who is identified as Tendai Chivangu.

David Iorhemba

The Speaker, Benue House of Assembly, Mr David Iorhemba, on Thursday, resigned his appointment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who covered the proceedings of the House, reports that Iorhemba tendered his resignation letter to the Clerk of the House, Dr Torese Agena..

The clerk, in turn, handed the letter to the Deputy Speaker, Dr Stephen Onmeje, who the read the letter to the members.

Kenyan Village Celebrates Obama’s Victory

Hundreds of people stayed up through the night on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning to see the man they call “our greatest son” win his historic second term in office.

President Obama’s step-grandmother, Sarah Obama, led the celebrations at her home in the village, Kogelo, and said that God and his “love for all people” took him to victory.

Civil Groups Demand Okonjo-Iweala’s Sacking Over N2.7bn Subsidy Fraud

Over 500 placard-carrying protesters on Wednesday in Abuja stormed the Federal Ministry of Finance and demanded the immediate resignation of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

They called for the minister’s sacking for what they described as unfavourable economic policies of the current administration and an alleged fraudulent payment of N2. 7bn to a firm which was allegedly not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission.

They specifically accused the minister of allegedly paying “the fictitious company” N2.7bn subsidy claim.

Aftermath Of Aluu 4 Killings: UNIPORT Reopens

Authorities of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, southsouth Nigeria, have announced the re-opening of the institution for academic activities.

The institution was shut last month in the wake of violent protest over the murder of four students by a mob in Aluu community.

A statement signed by the Deputy Registrar of the University, Williams Wodi said the decision to re-open the school was reached after an emergency meeting held by the University Senate on Wednesday.

The statement urged all students to return to the campus before weekend as normal lectures would begin on Monday, 12 November.

A police corporal, Jeremiah Yusuf, lost four children in a fire incident at Tudun-wada Quarters of Gusau, Zamfara, on Wednesday.

Yusuf told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a neighbour’s house where he was receiving sympathisers, that “I watched all my children burn helplessly before me and I could not do anything to save them.”

Yusuf explained that he became aware of the incident at about 1am when his sister-in-law, rushed into his bedroom shouting that the four-bedroom house was on fire.

Another Private University Shut Down as NUC Maintains its Benchmark

Faith University a private university situated in Delta State has been shut down by university regulatory bodies (NUC) for operating illegally in Nigeria.

Prof. Hope Eghagha, Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education said that the university was shut down because it has not been registered by the National University Commission (NUC).

Dino Melaye Lacks Honour; He Is Sponsored By Subsidy Thieves –Okonjo Iweala

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has described Dino Melaye as a "disreputable former member of the House of Representatives". She also accused Melaye of lacking honour and common decency.

Reacting to a protest led by Dino to the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday calling for the resignation of the controversial minister, Okonjo-Iweala accused him of being sponsored by oil marketers indicted in the subsidy probe.

But in a swift reaction Dino has said he would sue the minister for Libel.

Melaye, who took to Twitter to respond to Okonjo-Iweala said in one of his tweets “We asked why will (minister of) finance pay oil thieves without due diligence and scrutiny, so how does this relate to sponsorship from oil thieves?”

Balogun said the sex trade had become rampant on Nigerian campuses to such an extent that 80 percent of prostitutes that patronise night clubs, hotels and tourist centres in Ogun State are students of tertiary institutions.
