GistNaija  authoritatively gathered from reliable source that the project which is to be funded by Abudu herself, along with other investors we could not immediately confirm.

Sources say the crew is currently being handpicked, following the acquisition of equipment, and the signing of a landmark JV and concession agreement with Tinapa, in Cross Rivers state.

One source told us the media entrepreneur ‘has paid a huge amount to DSTV’ to acquire a channel, and that the Channel distribution deal was reportedly signed with Multichoice in South Africa.

Report has it that gunmen had on Wednesday raided the female hostel of Paul University, Awka in Anambra state, eastern Nigeria and dispossessed the students of their cash and various items, including mobile phones.

A witness said the armed gang carried out the operation for several minutes unchallenged.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Ikechukwu Abana, who confirmed the incident, said the hoodlums came in the night and attacked the female hostel.

World's Tallest Woman Dies In China At Age 39

                     

The world's tallest woman has died in eastern China. She was 39.

Chinese state media say Yao Defen died on Nov. 13 at her home in China's eastern province of Anhui.

Guinness World Records in January 2010 had certified her as the world's tallest living woman at 7 feet and 7 inches (233.3 centimeters).

The local Xin'an Evening News did not give the cause of death but said in a report that Yao suffered from gigantism, with a tumor on her pituitary gland disrupting her levels of growth hormone. A government official in her county who gave only his surname, Liu, confirmed Yao's death on Wednesday.

The Xin'an newspaper said Yao learned to play basketball when young, and that she was 6 feet and 7 inches (200 centimeters) tall by the age of 15.

In a Chinese-language video from three years ago, Yao expressed anguish at her unusual height. "I am very unhappy. Why am I this tall?" she said from her bed. "If I were not this tall, others would not look at me like this."

“Punish Reuben Abati for professional misconduct” – Group tells Nigerian Guild of Editors

                          

The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has asked the Nigerian Guild of Editors to discipline the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, for breaching the ethics of journalism.

A petition signed by the group’s leader, Olarewaju Suraju, noted that Abati had breached the “factual, accurate balance and fair reporting” which it says “is the ultimate objective of good journalism.”

Mikel Obi Signs New 5-Year Contract With Chelsea

                        

Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has penned a new deal with Chelsea, that will see him stay at Stamford Bridge till 2017.

An official club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Mikel Obi has signed a new five-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2017.

“The midfielder has been a first-team regular since arriving as a 19-year-old in the summer of 2006.

Thierry Henry has agreed in principle to make a sensational return to Arsenal for a third spell in January, Goal.com can reveal. The club are aiming for their all-time leading goalscorer to begin his second loan in consecutive seasons on January 1.

He said, “Facebook and other social networks are good, but I will advise you to leave Facebook and face your studies.”

Switzerland Returns $700M Stolen By Abacha Back To Nigeria

                                      

Nearly 15 years after the death of General Sani Abacha, Nigeria’s former military ruler, the Swiss Government has said that it has so far returned to Nigeria the sum of $700 million stolen by the late dictator and deposited in several Swiss banks.


The Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Hodel, announced the figure at a media briefing in Abuja, yesterday.

Hodel also hinted that his country had begun proceedings in Geneva against one of Abacha’s sons -Abba, for allegedly sponsoring a criminal organization but did not give further details.

Nigeria Now 35th Most Corrupt In The World -Transparency Int’l Report

                         
The much talked about fight against corruption by the federal government may not have started yielding the desired result as Nigeria is ranked the 35th most corrupt country in the world, according to a 2012 report by Transparency International on global corruption.

The report released at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nigeria scored 27 out of a maximum 100 marks to clinch the 139th position out of the 176 countries surveyed for the report. It shared that position with Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal and Pakistan. Countries such as Togo, Mali, Niger and Benin fared better t
han Nigeria.

It will be recalled that Nigeria placed 143rd in the 2011 ranking, making it the 37th most corrupt country. However, when compared with this year’s result, It is difficult to say whether Nigeria has recorded any improvement because 182, six more than this year’s, were ranked in 2011.

According to the report, this year’s index ranks 176 countries/territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The index draws on 13 surveys covering expert assessments and surveys of businesspeople.

The Corruption Perceptions Index is the leading indicator of public sector corruption, offering a yearly snapshot of the relative degree of the corruption problem by ranking countries from all over the globe.

Chelsea Buys Brazilian Defender Wallace

                       

Chelsea have completed the £5million signing of Brazilian defender Wallace with the 18-year-old set to join the Stamford Bridge club at the end of the season.

Sportsmail revealed the European champions had been in discussions over a deal for the 18-year-old since March.

The attacking right back made his senior debut for Fluminense this season and has made 18 appearances for the first team and helped them lift the Brazilian league championship, the Rio State League and the Guanabara Cup.

Late Jonathan’s Brother, To Be Buried On Saturday .

                                   

President Goodluck Jonathan will leave Abuja for Bayelsa State on Thursday to participate in the burial ceremonies of his younger brother, Meni Innocent Jonathan who passed away on Tuesday 20 November 2012

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, President Jonathan’s brother is to be laid to rest on Saturday, 8 December 2012 at his hometown, Otuoke, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The statement said “his remains will be conveyed from Abuja to Otuoke on Friday, December 7, 2012 and will be received by the Otuoke Council of Chiefs at the Otuoke Community Hall at 2.30pm on the same day.

“There will be a Service of Songs for him at the Dame Patience Jonathan Square, Otuoke at 6pm that evening while a commendation service will be held at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke at 10 am on Saturday.

“He will be interred after the commendation service.”

Married Emma Webb, 42, performed sex acts on the pupils - aged 15 to 17 - during free period and detention at the Berkshire school.

She groomed them by taking them out for meals at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and giving them lifts to school, Reading Crown Court heard.

The supply teacher and mentor, who admitted a total of 30 charges relating to the offences involving five boys at the secondary school, even joked with one boy about having his baby.

Revealed: Arsene Wenger Met With PSG Owners Last Week

                   

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has met with the owners of Paris St Germain, a French newspaper has reported.

The oil-rich French side are preparing to sack former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti after a poor run of form that has seen them slip into fourth place in Ligue 1 and, according to reports in France, a meeting took place between the Qatari owners and Frenchman Wenger.

In part 2 of its series ‘PSG On The Hunt’, Le Parisien report that a meeting took place at the Hotel Monceau late last week between representatives of PSG owner Sheik Hamad-Al-Thani and Wenger. However, they say Wenger has long standing links with the Sheikh and also acts as an adviser to the Al Jazeera television channel.

The French paper also reports that Jose Mourinho remains PSG’s No 1 target, but Arsenal have slipped to tenth in the Barclays Premier League and potential suitors may be tempted to try and lure Wenger away. He has previously turned down many jobs, including Real Madrid to stay loyal to Arsenal.

PSG are also looking towards Pep Guardiola as they consider their next move. They are unhappy with Ancelotti’s progress, despite having star players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Wenger was previously offered a job in Paris is 2011, but PSG have continued to emerge as major players since then.

Pope Gets 370,000 Twitter Followers in 24 Hours

                              

Even though he has not sent a single tweet yet, Pope Benedict had some 370,000 followers on Twitter today, a mere 24 hours after the Vatican unveiled his handle: @pontifex.

They included people ranging from simple Roman Catholic faithful to a Jewish head of state.

"Your holiness, welcome to Twitter. Our relations with the Vatican are at their best and can form a basis to further peace everywhere," tweeted Israeli President Shimon Peres, who at 89 is four years older than Benedict.

The Vatican said on Monday that Benedict will start tweeting on mostly spiritual topics from December 12.

Okorocha Proposes N195.74 Billion Budget for 2013

                                  

Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Monday presented a N195.74 billion budget for the 2013 fiscal year before the state's House of Assembly.

The budget is made up of N63.56 billion (32.47 per cent) recurrent expenditure and N132. 18 billion (67.53 per cent) capital expenditure.

Presenting the budget christened ``Rescue Budget II'', Okorocha said that the proposal would be financed through the projected recurrent revenue of N93.88 billion and capital receipts of N101.85 billion.

Mother Removed The Head of Her 2-Year-Old Son, Stored It In Freezer, After Smoking Marijuana

                           
Toxicology tests show a New Jersey woman who decapitated her 2-year-old son and then killed herself in August had smoked PCP-laced marijuana.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s released the test results Monday showing 34-year-old Chevonne Thomas had used the drug before killing her son and putting his head in a freezer.

The woman had suffered from mental illness and had twice lost custody of her son because of drug use. It was believed from the Aug. 22 tragedy that she was using the drug known as “wet,” which is linked to violence in some users.

The same drug was linked to another horrific crime in Camden weeks later. In that case, authorities say a man broke into a home where he attacked a sleeping girl, then fatally stabbed her 6-year-old brother.

Ojukwu’s Firm Rejects Bianca as Director

                              

A Director of Ojukwu Transport Company Limited has said the wife of the late Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odimegwu-Ojukwu, Bianca, has no place on the directorship or trusteeship of the company.

Director, Mr. Ifeukwu Ojukwu, said on Monday that since OTL was owned by the late Sir Louis Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the late Biafran warlord could not dictate who the trustees or directors of the company should be.

 

Ojukwu, who was the Ikemba of Nnewi, had directed, in his Will, that Bianca, should replace him as a trustee of OTL.

 

Ifeukwu said, “Bianca is neither a trustee member nor a Director of OTL and it is good to note that OTL is a different property from the things the late Ikemba Ojukwu had and the directorship cannot be transferred through a Will.”

Today, rumours of a bomb explosion at a shopping complex in Lokogoma, a settlement in the Federal Capital Territory, caused panic among residents.

However, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, dismissed the rumour during an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, described the unfortunate incident as false alarm.

Mba said that no case of bomb explosion was reported in or around the FCT, noting that investigations by security operatives had indicated that the incident was a mere fire outbreak.

Another source said The explosion  was traced to a gas leakage caused some people to disseminate information that there was a bomb blast in the area. The bomb hoax triggered panic in Abuja earlier in the day.

Silverbird Cinemas Open In Ikeja Shopping Mall!

                     
Silverbird Entertainment, known for its TV channel, Rhythm FM radio station and relaxation gallerias, has opened a cinema – at the weekend – at Ikeja shopping mall.

The move has increased Silverbird cinemas to three in Lagos, following the one at its galleria on Victoria Island, and ozone cinemas around Yaba.


Ikeja shopping mall houses the third Shoprite outlet in Lagos, and Silverbird cinema’s addition extends what Ikeja shopping mall offer to visitors.  The cinema will also be another option to premier Nollywood movies and entertain many during the Christmas and New Year festivity.
