Mo Abudu Set To Launch Own TV Channel “Ebonylife”

Celebrity show biz personnel and hostess of “Moments With Mo”, Mo’ Abudu is set to dazzle the continent of Africa with the announcement of her own cable channel, ”EbonyLife” to be broadcast live on DSTV in several African countries.

GistNaija  authoritatively gathered from reliable source that the project which is to be funded by Abudu herself, along with other investors we could not immediately confirm.

Sources say the crew is currently being handpicked, following the acquisition of equipment, and the signing of a landmark JV and concession agreement with Tinapa, in Cross Rivers state.

One source told us the media entrepreneur ‘has paid a huge amount to DSTV’ to acquire a channel, and that the Channel distribution deal was reportedly signed with Multichoice in South Africa.

Report has it that gunmen had on Wednesday raided the female hostel of Paul University, Awka in Anambra state, eastern Nigeria and dispossessed the students of their cash and various items, including mobile phones.

A witness said the armed gang carried out the operation for several minutes unchallenged.

The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr Ikechukwu Abana, who confirmed the incident, said the hoodlums came in the night and attacked the female hostel.

World's Tallest Woman Dies In China At Age 39


The world's tallest woman has died in eastern China. She was 39.

Chinese state media say Yao Defen died on Nov. 13 at her home in China's eastern province of Anhui.

Guinness World Records in January 2010 had certified her as the world's tallest living woman at 7 feet and 7 inches (233.3 centimeters).

The local Xin'an Evening News did not give the cause of death but said in a report that Yao suffered from gigantism, with a tumor on her pituitary gland disrupting her levels of growth hormone. A government official in her county who gave only his surname, Liu, confirmed Yao's death on Wednesday.

The Xin'an newspaper said Yao learned to play basketball when young, and that she was 6 feet and 7 inches (200 centimeters) tall by the age of 15.

In a Chinese-language video from three years ago, Yao expressed anguish at her unusual height. "I am very unhappy. Why am I this tall?" she said from her bed. "If I were not this tall, others would not look at me like this."

“Punish Reuben Abati for professional misconduct” – Group tells Nigerian Guild of Editors


The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) has asked the Nigerian Guild of Editors to discipline the Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, for breaching the ethics of journalism.
A petition signed by the group’s leader, Olarewaju Suraju, noted that Abati had breached the “factual, accurate balance and fair reporting” which it says “is the ultimate objective of good journalism.”

Mikel Obi Signs New 5-Year Contract With Chelsea

Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has penned a new deal with Chelsea, that will see him stay at Stamford Bridge till 2017.
An official club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Mikel Obi has signed a new five-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2017.
“The midfielder has been a first-team regular since arriving as a 19-year-old in the summer of 2006.
“Mikel made his debut that August, and has gone on to make 261 appearances, 213 as a starter. In that time he has scored twice.”
The 25-year-old expressed his delight, at extending his stay at the London club.

Thierry Henry Agrees To Join Arsenal For A Third Spell

Thierry Henry has agreed in principle to make a sensational return to Arsenal for a third spell in January, can reveal. The club are aiming for their all-time leading goalscorer to begin his second loan in consecutive seasons on January 1.
Henry has told Arsenal that he wants to return to the Emirates Stadium and the Londoners are now thrashing out an agreement with his club, New York Red Bulls, on the terms of the deal. Prof. Olusola Oyewole, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has advised students to stop wasting their time on social networks, especially  facebook at the expense of their studies.
The VC disclosed this through the former Head of Department of General Studies and Communication, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, at a seminar tagged: Role Modeling Lecture for the Girl-Child, organised by a Ph.D student and 2010 Award Fellow, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlolu-Akinyemi, Oyewole and sponsored by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development.
He said, “Facebook and other social networks are good, but I will advise you to leave Facebook and face your studies.”

ACN Leader Attacked With Pure-Water Sachets In Ondo


The party organised by, Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the last governorship election in Ondo State to thank members of the party was almost marred by violence as aggrieved members attacked the Director of Planning and Mobilization of the party, Tayo Alasoadura.

Mr. Alasoadura narrowly escaped being lynched by irate party members over allegations that he collected but refused to distribute money and other gift-items, collected from the leadership of the party, meant for the members for the October 20 governorship election. Leonard Gandari's wife had gone to Banket where she was attending a funeral and Leonard deemed that as a golden opportunity to 'import' a 'prostitute' into their matrimonial house in Zengeza 4, in the presence of his wife's siblings.

The lover was identified as Memory Mupindu (25) and she was stripped by angry neighbours after the couple overslept and Leonard was late to 'deport' his catch before co-tenants and his wife's siblings had woken up.

Switzerland Returns $700M Stolen By Abacha Back To Nigeria


Nearly 15 years after the death of General Sani Abacha, Nigeria’s former military ruler, the Swiss Government has said that it has so far returned to Nigeria the sum of $700 million stolen by the late dictator and deposited in several Swiss banks.

The Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Hodel, announced the figure at a media briefing in Abuja, yesterday.

Hodel also hinted that his country had begun proceedings in Geneva against one of Abacha’s sons -Abba, for allegedly sponsoring a criminal organization but did not give further details.

Nigeria Now 35th Most Corrupt In The World -Transparency Int’l Report

The much talked about fight against corruption by the federal government may not have started yielding the desired result as Nigeria is ranked the 35th most corrupt country in the world, according to a 2012 report by Transparency International on global corruption.

The report released at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nigeria scored 27 out of a maximum 100 marks to clinch the 139th position out of the 176 countries surveyed for the report. It shared that position with Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal and Pakistan. Countries such as Togo, Mali, Niger and Benin fared better t
han Nigeria.

It will be recalled that Nigeria placed 143rd in the 2011 ranking, making it the 37th most corrupt country. However, when compared with this year’s result, It is difficult to say whether Nigeria has recorded any improvement because 182, six more than this year’s, were ranked in 2011.

According to the report, this year’s index ranks 176 countries/territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The index draws on 13 surveys covering expert assessments and surveys of businesspeople.

The Corruption Perceptions Index is the leading indicator of public sector corruption, offering a yearly snapshot of the relative degree of the corruption problem by ranking countries from all over the globe.
