There is nothing more joyful than to see people who have made it, give back something good to the society that make them reach their level.

Nigeria's musical group called Skuki(which includes Tunmininu and Atewologun) have just devised their own way of giving something good to the society that made them. They are to start producing their own brand of condoms and preaching about s*x education to teenagers.

The hip-hop duo who came into reckoning with their smash hit, ‘Banger’,  while justifying their foray into this particular line of venture said:

“We are great believers in the fact that the youth are the leaders of tomorrow and have to learn from a young age that if you can’t abstain, you have to play safe. But not only that, we are looking at it from the concept of family planning, of teenage pregnancies and putting a stop to it.

“Every pregnant teenager in our society is another teenager that has to stop schooling in order to handle the situation they find themselves in. It goes way more than just the condom and s*x part.” They added.

Swaziland Bans Miniskirts And Any Form Of Provocative Dressing; Offenders Face 6 Months In Jail

                           

It is now a sin to wear miniskirts in Swaziland as police in Africa’s last absolute monarchy have banned women from wearing miniskirts and midriff-revealing tops saying they provoke r*pe, local media reported on Monday.

Offenders face a six-month jail term under the ban, which invokes a colonial criminal act dating back to 1889.

“The act of the defiler is made easy, because it would be easy to remove the half-cloth worn by the women,” police spokeswoman Wendy Hleta was quoted as saying in the Independent Online news.

Not only miniskirts are affected by the ban, but the ban also applies to low-rise jeans.

“They will be arrested,” she said.

Hleta said women wearing revealing clothing were responsible for assaults or r*pes committed against them.

“I have read from the social networks that men and even other women have a tendency of ‘undressing people with their eyes’. That becomes easier when the clothes are hugging or are more revealing,” Hleta said.

However, the ban does not apply to traditional costumes worn by young women during ceremonies like the annual Reed Dance, where the ruling King Mswati III chooses a wife.

The flamboyant king already has 13 wives.

During the ceremony, beaded traditional skirts worn by young bare-breasted virgins only cover the front, leaving the back exposed. Underwear is not allowed.

The law was enforced after a march by women and young girls last month calling for protection against a spate of r*pes in the impoverished kingdom, almost entirely surrounded by South Africa.

According to the media report, the march was blocked by police who has now found what they believe is a solution to the incidence of r*pe in Southern African country. [AFP]

Bus Driver In Lagos Killed By LASTMA Official During Struggle Today

                     
A commercial bus driver, Isaac Popoola, died on Monday after a fierce struggle with an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA. The LASTMA officials tried to seize the deceased car.

The 54-year-old breathed his last after the traffic officer allegedly hit his head on a metallic part of the bus as they struggled for control of the steering wheel.
Witnesses said that the bus left Egbeda/Akowonjo at around 6 a.m. on its way to Oshodi when a LASTMA patrol van pulled up in front of the vehicle as they approached Oshodi.


“Two officers approached the bus and one told the driver to come down and he refused. So they began to struggle,” a witness said.
The bus conductor ran into the nearby Mosafejo police station, and before he returned, his driver’s lifeless body was resting in the driver’s seat.
And a little crowd, which had gathered during the scuffle, had seized the officer.
At the Area F Police Headquarters, Ikeja, Mr. Popoola’s lifeless body lay in his bus with Lagos registration number XL166SMK. His colleagues and family members gathered around the bus; the wife’s periodic cry shattering the stillness of the afternoon.


“He is very gentle, humble. I don’t know why the LASTMA man killed my husband. Now I’m a widow,” said Dupe, the deceased’s wife, who stated that she was preparing to go to her shop when someone broke the news to her via a phone call.
“From where will I start? My children do not have father again. Who’s going to render the help? Very terrible, I can’t bear it. Who’s going to help me?” Mrs. Popoola said.


LASTMA have quickly disowned the alleged perpetrators of Monday’s fatal incident.
While naming Adesanya Olatunde and Ogunride Oludele as some of the culprits, the agency stated that the officers “acted on their own” and flouted operational guidelines.


“Adesanya was later identified by the Provost Marshall of the agency and handed over to the police while Oludele, who was reported to be off duty as at the time of the incident, was still at large,” Babatunde Edu, the General Manager of the agency, said in a statement.
“Effort is on to arrest other suspects connected with the incident,” he added.

BREAKING NEWS: Gunman Opened Fire, Killing Many And Injuring Others In Bauchi

                                    

A gunman opened fire on people at Bigi Village in Bauchi State on Monday, killing many and injuring others, the police have said. The Bauchi police said not all the shot victims by the gunman died.


The Police Public Relations Officer, Abbas Abdullahi, confirmed the incident on Monday in Bauchi.


The gunman may have escaped unhurt as the police spokesperson did not comment on his arrest or death.
Mr. Abdullahi said all the victims have been taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi for treatment.
He said that not all the people shot had died, explaining that some of the victims were currently receiving treatment at the Teaching Hospital.


The police spokesperson said the number of casualties had not been determined by the police, assuring however, that the figure would be announced by the police in due course.


The police have cordoned off the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
In a similar development, the police and army formations in Bauchi metropolis have been barricaded.


Vehicular and human traffic have been reduced to the barest minimum while a section of the road leading to the office of the Commissioner of Police in the state has also been condoned off.
Access to the Army Barracks has since been restricted to forestall attack.

Tragedy: 7 Soldiers Die In Accident On Abaji-Abuja Highway Today

                         

Seven soldiers died this afternoon in an accident involving three vehicles at Awawa on the Abaji-Abuja highway.

According to the Federal Road Safety officials, the truck conveying the soldiers was involved in a head-on collision with another truck.

It was gathered that a Toyota 18-seater Hiace bus was also involved in the accident.

As at the time of this report, it couldn’t be confirmed where the soldiers where heading to when the accident happened.

President Goodluck Jonathan    and some of his officials have paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi in Ikoyi Lagos.

Azazi and Governor Patrick Yakowa, died after a Naval helicopter they were flying in, crashed on Saturday December 15, 2012.

Christmas Eve Tragedy: 5 Teenagers Drown Mysteriously When They Went Swimming In Anambra

Lifeless Body of The Teens

In rather mysterious and unclear circumstances, five teenagers have reportedly drowned this morning in Anambra state.

 The children, four boys and a girl went swimming for fun in the Omambala river at Umuezeanam, Anambra west, where they were later allegedly found to have drowned.

Four of the victims who are from the same family including the girl among them, and their friend, had travelled with their parents from Lagos to the village for the Yuletide celebrations when they met their untimely end on Christmas Eve.

Wife Rescues Her Husband From Their 2-Storey Building Which Was Gutted By Fire

The landlord of a two-storey building, Mr Joseph Nwachukwu, escaped death by whiskers as his property was gutted by fire in Aba, Abia.

Mr Chizoba Nwachukwu, the eldest son of Nwachukwu, made this known to newsmen in Aba Friday. Nwachukwu told newsmen that his mother was on her way back home when she saw the house in flames.

“She rushed to see my dad alone in the room and saved him first before calling for help from the neighbourhood,” he said.

He said that the fire, which started from a tenant’s apartment, razed the building at 17 Joe Express Street, near Ariaria International Market on Thursday.

The eldest son said that his father who had been suffering from stroke before the inferno was rescued while the property, including cash was gutted by fire.
“Every other thing in our flat was completely burnt. All I have laboured for in life are no more. The only thing I have is this cloth I am wearing.”

He said that the people who came to their rescue could not enter their flat because of electric shock from the boiler and gave the cost of the damage including cash to be over N3 million.

Kaduna State Gets New Deputy Governor

Kaduna state Governor, Muktar Yero, has nominated Nuhu Bajoga as the Deputy Governor of the state.

New Kaduna State governor, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, has sent the name of the state’s Peoples Democratic Party chair Nuhu Bajoga to the Kaduna state house of assembly for clearance and approval.

Kaduna state’s Commissioner of Information, Saidu Adamu, briefed newsmen on Monday after the governor met with Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, officials and principal officers of the state House of Assembly.

Prior to the appointment, Mr. Bajoga was the Chairman of the ruling PDP, in Kaduna state.
Mr. Bajoga, 63, who was the choice of Vice President Namadi Sambo might be sworn in later today.
Mr. Bajoga was the likely pick for the deputy governor slot following the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa two weeks ago. Mr. Yakowa died in a tragic navy helicopter crash along five others while returning from the burial of presidential aide,Oronto Douglas’s father.

SSS Arrest Two Journalists In Early Morning Of Today in Kaduna

The State Security Service (SSS), early Monday arrested two journalists working for Al-Mizan, a Hausa language newspaper.

Sources say the security operatives around 4am, stormed the house of Saleh, the paper’s reporter, in at least eight cars. Saleh resides in Rigasa, Kaduna.
He was reportedly manhandled alongside his wife. They were both arrested and subsequently moved to the next destination.

The editor, Musa Awwal and his wife, who also received the unexpected guests were also arrested after being maltreated.
Moments later, the officers it was learnt later freed the women and took the two journalists to an unknown destination.

The reason for the raid may not be unconnected with the latest story from the paper.
Titled “Atrocities of JTF in Potiskum,” the story which the security agencies considered provocative, gave accounts of how the Joint Task Force in Yobe State carries out extra-judicial arrests and murder of innocent citizens.

It further stated that over 80 young men were arrested about a month ago in Yobe by the JTF in Potiskum, and that nothing has since been heard from any of those picked up.

There has been no official statement from the SSS’ spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar. But the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, Aminu lawal said he could not confirm if such thing happened as been held in the media.

PFN Election: I Don’t Have Plans To Succeed Oritsejafor – Pastor Paul Adefarasin

Popular preacher and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, denied the report he was lobbying to take over the mantle of leadership from the PFN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

The cleric said this yesterday in Lagos during a church service, that he has no intention of contesting for the position.

Adefarasin described the report as “mere rumours masterminded by malicious people,” saying that he already had “enormous task’’ as the shepherd in charge of the House on the Rock Church, which he founded.

He said: “It is obvious that some people are planning to send out wrong messages with the aim of dividing the body of Christ. Let me say that I have never struggled to take up such position. I am not interested in it and I do not need it.

The cleric in his Christmas message to the congregation, described the birth of Christ as a special gift to the world, saying that the reason why people could not enjoy God’s gifts was because of fear and lack of faith.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in his Christmas message called on Nigerians to keep faith with the promises of God.

Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Nuhu Bajoga, May Be Appointed As New Deputy Governor

There are indications that chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nuhu Bajoga, may be appointed as the State’s Deputy Governor.

The search for the post had begun a few days after the death of late Governor Patrick Yakowa.
A former Nigerian Ambassador to Poland, Bajoga hails from Southern Kaduna, the same local government with the late Governor’s wife, Mrs. Amina Yakowa.

Sources say his name may be submitted to the state House of Assembly for confirmation this week.

The development did not come to many as a surprise as Vice President Namadi Sambo is the political godfather of the new Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero. He is reportedly pushing for the candidature of Bajoga for the number two citizen of the state.
It would be recalled that Yero was an accountant for 10 years in Sambo’s company Nalado Nigeria Limited in Kaduna.

Sambo on Saturday morning, was present at the PDP State Caucus meeting which was called to officially announce Yero as the new leader of the party in the state.
Bajoga in his speech at the meeting, pledged his “total loyalty” to Yero.
A political analyst who is from the North-West state told a source that, “If the news is true, then I expect that there will be serious opposition to Bajoga’s nomination. I don’t think it is a consensus agreement with input of relevant stakeholders. Several groups and power blocs in the state are jostling to have their preferred candidate become the new Deputy.”

“As I speak lot of people hold the view that Amina (Yakowa’s wife) should be compensated with the position. Aside that, the Kaduna mafia still exists and I don’t think they really want Bajoga in that
office,” he added.

Ngige Dashes Out Cash, Cars To Aides, Others

 

Former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige on Sunday in Awka gave out eight Toyota Camry to some of his aides and party men.

 

The representative of Anambra Central in the Senate also extended the gesture to a man he refused to name, but who he said resisted the attempt to rig him out of the 2011 senatorial election.

 

Among the beneficiaries of the gifts were Mr. Kingsley Ezenwenyi, who was his agent during the election; Chief Charles Amilo, the Director of Communications of Ngige Campaign Organisation; and Chief Chris Udeze, the Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria in Idemili Local Government.

 

Ngige said he would also give out another set of vehicles in March 2013, urging members of the of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the state to mobilise support for the party.

 

The Senator also donated a total of N20m to schools, orphanages, churches, student associations and party executive committees at the ward and local governments.

He announced a scholarship of N100m for students in his constituency.

 

Ngige, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, lamented poor electricity supply in the state, promising that a major power injection station would be sited at Dunukofia to boost power supply to Awka and Onitsha.

 

He called for understanding from people expecting him and other lawmakers to attract projects to the state, saying as legislators, there was a limit to what they could do.

 

He said, “We do not give contracts. We are not executives. We only make laws. A legislator can only come on oversight. For whatever we want, we have to go through the executive.”

Abia Discovers 1727 Ghost Workers In LGs

Abia State government has discovered 1727 ghost workers on the pay roll of its 17 local government councils.

The ghost workers were fished out by the biometric data implementation committee set up by the state government to find out why the council’s wage bill had steadily been on the increase.

Worried by the whopping wage bill in the local government system, the government introduced biometric method of identifying the genuine workers with the aim of fishing out the ghost names that appeared on the wage bill.

The committee that handled this was headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Cosmos Ndukwe.

A break down of the figure showed that Aba South council has the highest number of ghost workers with 245, followed by Isiala Ngwa South with 153 ghost workers, while Ugwunagbo with 28 ghost workers had the least number.

Submitting its preliminary report, Chairman of the committee, Cosmos Ndukwe, explained that the committee visited the 17 councils and took physical count of the genuine workers during the exercise.
“We were able to identify 1727 ghost workers who could not be accounted for, which include those who did not appear before us and they have to get in touch with the governor to explain themselves,” Ndukwe said.

The committee called on the government to pay the salary, including arrears of the identified workers, as captured by the biometric data capturing machines.

Receiving the report from the committee, Governor Theodore Orji frowned on the high rate of financial rot that had been existing in the local government system, saying his administration was determined to put a stop to it.

The governor regretted the attitude of workers who instead of working for their pay “are busy under-mining the efforts of the state”.

The four Koreans and a Nigerian kidnapped in Bayelsa State by eight gunmen said on Saturday that their assailants fed them with noodles, tea and banana while in captivity.

 

The victims, who were released on Friday night after spending five days in the kidnappers’ den located in a mangrove, said the captors set them free after branding them “bad market.”

Youths Kill Pastor, Two Other People Over Land Dispute

                                 

Members of Faith Builders Ministry, a Pentecostal church located in Calabar Municipal Council of Cross River State, have been thrown into mourning following the death of their pastor and founder, Rev. John Ene-Obong, who was killed last Monday by irate youths over a land dispute in Ikot Ene-Obong community.

Ene-Obong, who reportedly returned to Nigeria from Canada barely a week before his death, was killed alongside two others whose names were given as Effiong Koko-Ette and Victor Ene-Boco.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the disputed land belongs to the family of the slain pastor.

It was further learnt that the pastor and two others might have been killed to avenge killing of one Eton, who was killed on the same farmland.

Eton, our correspondent learnt, was accused of maiming another man identified simply as Effiong.
Effiong, who was said to be a victim of the protracted land dispute, has been amputated on one of his legs following injury sustained when he was shot.

On the latest killings, a source told our correspondent that the pastor went to inspect the land in company with the two other victims when they were ambushed and killed.
Residents of Ikot Ene-Obong community and its environs are now living in fear following the war of attrition the land dispute had caused among members of late Chief Ene-Obong’s family.

It was learnt that the land dispute had polarised the family and factions within Ene-Obong’s family now resorted to use of thugs to intimidate one another.

A member of the family and former chairman of Calabar Municipality Local Government Area, Mr. Willy Okokon, confirmed the pastor’s death.

He said it was painful and unfortunate the way things had turned out, adding that the family would soon come out with burial plans.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Umoh, said six persons had been arrested in connection with the killings.

Umoh, who stated that investigation was ongoing on the matter, however, added that the principal suspect was still at large.
He said, “The state Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the matter. Six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the killings.

“There is one principal suspect that is still at large. However, those arrested are still in our custody and we will not release them until investigations have been concluded.”

Osaze Wants To Be Eagles Captain — Keshi Reveals

 

Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has dropped a bombshell by saying Osaze Odemwingie had proposed himself as team captain.

 

Keshi told a stunned Nigeria Football Federation technical committee that the West Bromwich Albion striker put himself forward to be the Eagles skipper.

“He told them that he wants to be captain as he considers himself one of the most senior players in the current squad,” an official revealed.

 

“But how he has behaved in the national team over the years has really run counter to his ambition to be the leader of this team. You can only lead by example.”

The 31-year-old Osaze made his Eagles debut in 2002, but it was not until the 2004 Nations Cup that he established himself in the national team.

 

Goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide as well as defender and present skipper Joseph Yobo are older than Osaze in the Eagles.

 

However, he has rowed with national team bosses, from Austin Eguavoen to Lars Lagerback, and his clash with Samson Siasia was widely regarded as one of the problems that caused Nigeria to sensationally fail to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup.

 

It is such poor attitude that has now denied him a fifth Nations Cup appearance.

In the meantime, the Eagles coach has said he wishes to run the rule over shock invitee Rabiu Ibrahim who has failed to establish himself at Celtic.

 

Ibrahim has only managed a handful of games in his second season at Celtic Park and has yet to be capped by Nigeria at full international.

“Keshi said he has watched Rabiu in a couple of cup games and will want to have a closer look at the midfielder in Faro, Portugal,” a top official told MTNFootball.com

 

The gifted Ibrahim has held out a lot of promise since he featured for the Golden Eaglets in 2007, but he has yet to establish himself in Europe ever since.

 

This will be his second Eagles call-up as he was also considered for the 2010 Nations Cup, but opted out as he had just undergone a groin operation.

 

Some top officials also took an exception to the continued invitation of Italy-based midfielder Obiora Nwankwo, saying he is sluggish and brings very little to the team.

However, Keshi stood by his decision, insisting that the Olympic team skipper is tactically disciplined.

Shittu May Turn Down Eagles Recall Says Club Coach

Bulky centre-half, Danny Shittu, who made his international debut for Nigeria against Paraguay on March 26, 2002 and was a squad member of the Super Eagles to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, could turn down the call from Nigeria to play in the 2013 AfCON in South Africa.

According to his manager at Millwall, Kenny Jackett, the big defender looks set to reject the chance to play for Nigeria after he got a recall on Friday by Stephen Keshi.

Jackett is so sure that the 32-year-old centre-back will not honour the Nigerian call.
“I don’t think he’s going to go and I don’t think he’s been in touch with them. At the moment that’s the decision.

“It was a surprise but it shows how well Danny has done. He’s only in the preliminary squad so that’s going to be cut down.

“But congratulations to him because he’s in there based on his performances,” Jackett was quoted as saying.

Barely 24 hours after two separate suicide bombings which targeted Airtel and MTN’s offices in the Malam Kato Square area of Kano, another explosion has been reported in Agangra beer market in Badawa area of the ancient city.
