Strange – Snake Kill 37Years Old Man,Then Attends His Funeral

A funeral turned to bush theatre on Saturday when a snake, which is believed to have bitten a man leading to his death, appeared during his burial.
Onwel Banda (37) was attacked by a snake behind his bedroom hut as he returned from answering the call of nature in a nearby bush on Thursday night. He was reportedly rushed to Nyamandlovu Clinic.
Unfortunately, he died a day after owing the lack of anti-snake venom medication, which is reportedly not available in most health centres in the country. A nurse at the clinic confirmed attending to Banda.
Mourners temporarily deserted the graveyard when a man who was picking logs to mark the grave at the end of the burial, screamed ‘snake – snake!”
A source told our news crew that women scurried for cover while men went for the snake. The mourners killed the snake and took it close to the grave to show a Roman Catholic priest whi was preaching at the graveyard. The snake, which villagers claim had no teeth, is believed to be the one that killed Banda.
Another villager, who claimed to be present when the incident took place said the incident was just too strange.
“It was just too strange to understand. Normally a snake doesn’t appear where there are too many people said the girl who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Banda’s brother, who only identified himself as Kinwel, in a telephone interview claimed the snake had been haunting his brother for sometime.
“This is not a simple issue. There is witchcraft at play. We know our brother was locked in a bitter fight with another villager here over two beasts. They swore at each other. We guess what has befallen him is a result of the swearing,” he said.
Village head, Bethram Ndlovu confirmed the incident but said he was not sure if the snake is the one which attacked Banda.
“Mourners saw a snake while they were at the gravesite. They killed it and speculation started thereafter,” said village head Ndlovu.

Fresh indications have emerged that major Mobile network operators in the country have concluded plans to seek compensation from the Federal Government for losses incurred as a result of terrorist attacks on their installations.
The Executive Secretary, Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, Mr. Gbolahan Awonuga, confirmed this development on Tuesday even as he disclosed that MTN, Globacom, Airtel, Etisalat, and the CDMA operators had concluded plans to seek compensation from the Federal Government.
He said, “We are still getting information from the operators. We will send letters to the Ministry of Communications Technology, Nigerian Communications Commission as well as Nigerian Trade and Investment Commission. I don’t think anybody will expect operators to bear the loss alone.”
It would be recalled that on September 6, suspected Boko Haram members launched a series of co-ordinated attacks on MTN and Airtel in Borno before the latest daring twin suicide car bomb attacks, on Saturday, on the offices of Airtel and MTN in Kano.

The Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) has strongly condemned the spate of terrorist attacks rocking the nation, urging security agencies working to restore normalcy not to give up in its quest to get rid of terrorism.
Chairman of the forum and Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu yesterday reacted to the latest terrorist attack which reportedly occurred at the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Piri , Potiskum Local Government of Yobe State on Christmas day.
“The forum is deeply pained by the fact that the perpetrators chose a holy day (Christmas) to carry out such a dastardly act which left scores of worshippers dead and many others injured,” said a statement signed by Governor Aliyu’s Chief Press Secretary, Danladi Ndayebo.
The statement urged the security agencies not to be discouraged by the activities of terrorists, emphasizing that the nation would forever remain grateful to the military and other security agencies for the successes recorded so far in the war against terrorism.
The forum reiterated its commitment to continue to work closely with the federal government in finding a lasting solution to the security challenges confronting the nation.

“Newcastle And Millwall Must Obey The Rules” – NFF Threaten Euro Clubs Over Ameobi And Shittu

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), says it will report Newcastle United and Millwall to FIFA, if Shola Ameobi and Danny Shittu, are not released for the Africa Cup of Nations next month.
Magpies boss, Alan Pardew, has insisted that Ameobi will not be going for the competition, which starts on January 19, while Millwall manager Kenny Kackett, expects Shittu to turn down Nigeria.
“These clubs are not only disrespecting Nigeria but Fifa and Caf as well,” NFF board member Chris Green told BBC Sport.
“The rules are clear on international games approved by Fifa so we consider these comments as not only ridiculous but totally disrespectful.”
Green also said the Federation would invoke FIFA’s law against the English clubs, if they hold on to the players.
“We know the rules. Fifa has made it clear that these clubs will not be able to use these players for the duration of the Nations Cup plus an additional five days,” he said.
“We will further push for additional sanctions – we understand these clubs employ our players but they are also international footballers.
“Rules are rules. Newcastle and Millwall must understand the basics why they exist.

CAN President Condemns Yobe, Borno Christmas Eve Attacks On Churches

CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Tuesday condemned the killing of no fewer than 12 worshippers in Potiskum, Yobe State and Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Monday when gunmen suspected to be members of dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, attacked two churches in the Northern Nigerian towns.

Oritsejafor, who is the founder of Word of Life Bible Church in Warri, Delta state, described the incident as a “bestial act against a people exercising their rights to worship”.

He said, “It is highly disturbing and very barbaric; it is archaic. It is totally against God and anything that has to do with Him. You wonder how people will go to this extent in the name of God.
“Let us not continue to deny that there are jihadists, extremists and Islamists in this country. They are here. Let us agree that it is time for us to take certain steps to bring this madness to an end.”

He urged the worshippers in the area not to succumb to evil perpetrators by absconding their ancestral homes, stressing that doing so would be tantamount to cowardice.
Oritsejafor explained that although he was not cut out to disparage adherents of other faiths, the truth must be told.

He said, “Let me again say that I have high respect and regard for my Muslim friends and brothers. I’m not against Muslims. We need their help. We have been saying it and we will continue to say it. Not only do we appeal to them to condemn it, we are asking that they must help us take this message to the grassroots.

“We (Christians) are not their enemies. The clerics that preach in the mosques, they should help us spread this news. With this goodwill, they will be able to flush out those people from among them.”

The CAN President added, “These people are not really helping them. They are destroying their economy. When things like these happen, many (northern leaders) come out to condemn these acts. Condemning it as it is now is not enough. They must go a step further. They must condemn these acts. Nigeria belongs all of us and we must join hands together to make this nation what it is supposed to be.”

Osaze May Be Ban For Life- NFF

Super Eagles striker Osazie Odemwinge faces considerations by the The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of a life ban over his recent misdemeanor on twitter regarding his exclusion from the provisional 32 man list for the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa next month.

The West Brom striker took to Twitter on Sunday to express his disappointment at being dropped, attacking the NFF, Keshi and a host of other important football personalities in a lengthy rant.

Reports indicate that Osaze will be referred to the federation’s disciplinary committee who will investigate and make recommendations to the executive committee for the next line of action.

A top official of the NFF who prefers to remain anonymous said that Osaze would not be allowed to go unpunished for insulting the NFF, Keshi and the Eagles captain Joseph Yobo on social media, stressing that the West Brom star really took it too far and that he must pay for his action.

General Secretary of the NFF, Musa Amadu, who refused to comment on Osaze’s rant, described it as a big distraction to the Nations Cup plans.

He said “Going to AFCON and doing well is what we are thinking of now not a player’s ranting.”

President Obama’s Daughters, Sasha, Malia Have 11 Armed Guards At their School, Sidwell Friends, a Washington, D.C. area private school, has 11 armed security guards and is apparently hiring an additional police officer.

The reason that the not-at-all biased staff at Breitbart is bringing this to everyone’s attention is because Sasha and Malia Obama attend Sidwell Friends, as did other First Kids like Chelsea Clinton, Tricia Nixon, and Archibald Roosevelt (where, presumably, he wasn’t tormented for being named Archibald). “Shame on President Obama … for trying to prevent the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own,”

“Not done, we ensured that for the first time in decades, the cross country services (Lagos to Kano with stops in cities along the route) of the Nigerian Railway Corporation were revived just prior to the holidays to provide Nigerian masses with an inexpensive alternative to road and air transportation.

“This administration also took steps to increase power generation by remaining true to the Timelines of the Roadmap to Power Sector Reform, which has seen history made on Friday, December 21, when Nigeria’s power generation hit an all-time high of just over 4,500 MW.”

It was Chris Brown’s second time in Nigeria, the first being for a THISDAY Music Festival performance a few years ago.

Sources told us the fees ‘could have been more’ if he was required to perform with a live band or if he had to do multiple venues or cities.

Although he performed with a DJ and backing track, with two back-up singers and four dancers, he gave a good account of himself, treating fans to almost two hours of a well-planned set that left guests asking for more.

Chris Brown’s tour will continue early next year with a scheduled performance in Cote D’Ivoire.

Jonathan’s Government Is A Disappointment – Tinubu

The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has been given the thumbs down by former Lagos State governor and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) national leader, Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu hinged his verdict on the current administration’s failure to deliver on many of its promises, particularly that of transforming their lives.

He stated this yesterday in his Christmas message to Nigerians. ”This current administration rather than translating its touted transformation agenda into impactful performance has hastened the transformation of most Nigerians into poverty, into a world of unemployment and insecurity” he said.

He said Nigerians survived the outgoing year through dint of handwork and courage than through the support of the government.

While urging Nigerians not to lose hope and to continue in the spirit of Christmas to make the sacrifices necessary to make Nigeria better, he enjoined Christians to continue in steadfast prayers for Nigeria, noting that every good leader needs the support and prayers of the followers to succeed.

“Our faith will never let us down. We must trust in God and pray for a better country. When we pray, God will give Nigeria leaders that are capable, compassionate and committed.

“The situation our country is in today is both sad and unacceptable. We are as a people without a leader, a country with no trustworthy men at the helm of affairs and a nation lost at sea. Our leaders must commit to a better country, not tomorrow, but beginning now, today because time is not on our side and the continued patience of the people may no longer be guaranteed,” Tinubu said

My Anger Is Over – Osaze

Osaze Odemwingie

Out-of-favour Super Eagles striker, Osaze Odemwingie, is done being angry with coach Stephen Keshi and the Nigeria Football Federation following his dramatic exclusion from the team ahead of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Odemwingie was in a rage on Twitter when he learnt of his exclusion alongside significant players like Dynamo Kiev’ Taye Taiwo and Levante’s Obafemi Martins.
But on Monday, Odemwingie wrote on same social network, saying his anger was over and needed to focus on club action.
“Anger is over. Full focus on WBA season and next game. I don’t need any distraction, neither the Eagles camp. Both independent,” he wrote.
“Thanks for the support! Had to be disappointed with how they did it. Didn’t have to see that in press. Respect is reciprocal.”
Meanwhile, ex-international Olusegun Fetuga, has advised the excluded players not to take issue personal, saying the selection was for the best.
“There’s no reason anyone of them should insult the coach or the NFF for being excluded from the team. If a player doesn’t make the cut now, he can be in the squad in the future,” Fetuga said.
“Osaze’s outburst was totally unnecessary because you can always call the coach and express your feeling; going to the social network will further damage the relationship between him and the coach.”
Fetuga added, “Ordinarily, the coach owes no player any explanation on why he would not make a team. Both Keshi and Osaze need not take the dispute to the press, it’s unprofessional.”

Why My Administration Seems To Be Slow – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday said the apparent slowness of his administration in deciding on major national issues was to avoid costly mistakes.
Jonathan, at a Christmas Service held at the Cathedral Church of The Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja, said experience had shown him that when rushing to take decisions, serious mistakes could be made.
Reading the second lesson of the service, the President said he would not because of the public perception that his administration was slow begin to rush decision-making process.
He however assured Nigerians that when issues that needed fast decisions arose, his administration would rise up to the occasion like it did during the recent flood disasters in many parts of the country.
Jonathan said, “Sometimes, people say this government is slow. Yes, by human thinking, we are slow, but I can say that we are not slow.
“Government must think things properly before it acts. When you don’t think through things properly, or when you rush, you will make mistakes. It is more difficult to correct errors. You can ask those who build houses.
“Government will not, because of the perception, begin to rush. But where we are required to act very fast, we will do so, just like we did during the recent flood disasters.”
He assured Nigerians that his administration would not retrace any of the steps taken towards “laying a solid foundation for the nation’s transformation.”
Jonathan said he would work hard to ensure that “the successes” so far recorded in the agricultural sector, transport and electoral process were sustained.
Speaking on his administration’s transformation agenda, the President said it was arrived at after a full day debate ahead of the declaration of his presidential ambition in 2010.
Jonathan, who said no nation could be properly transformed without reformed citizenry, stated that the church had a great role to play in making the transformation agenda a success.
He said, “You can’t transform a country without the people being reformed. I call on the church to come up with programmes on how Nigerians can be reformed.
“People play politics with things that affect their own lives. That is why somebody will vandalise power equipment in order to ensure that power reform fails. Such people need to be reformed.”
He assured Nigerians that he was committed to keeping faith with all the promises he made during electioneering.
The President said Nigerians’ orientation must change, adding that the change must reflect in the way they thought and did things.
In his sermon, the Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, urged all religious, traditional and political leaders to emulate Jesus Christ whom he said had the masses at the centre of his agenda.
“The ordinary people should continue to be the subject of leaders’ agenda because God takes interest in the poor. Emphasis of leadership is the poor, the downtrodden. Their welfare and relief must occupy the agenda of (our) leaders,” he said.
The Primate said Christians must learn to embrace peace, even amidst the provocation that might come with the violence witnessed in the country.
He said, “There must be peace between man and man, especially in this country.
“We are labouring and praying for peace. Tit for tat is not recommended for the various killings in the country because Christians are peace bearers.
“Irrespective of the provocation, we must promote peace. It is also a solution to tribalism that has affected us and caused chaos.”
He commended the Federal Government on its cassava revolution, rice production and railway rehabilitation.
Okoh expressed the hope that in the coming year Nigeria would witness perfect security.
Shortly after the service which was also attended by the President’s wife, Patience; his mother, Eunice, other members of his family and top government officials, Jonathan played host to Christians who paid him visits at the Presidential Villa.
The visitors were led by Vice-President Namadi Sambo and his wife, Amina.
Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayeikan, in his remarks at the reception, urged Nigerians to be closer to one another and to relate more with God.
Sambo and the Minister of State, Federal Capital Authority, Jumoke Akinjide, later presented
Christmas cards to the President.
In his vote of thanks, Jonathan said his administration would continue to grow the economy in the New Year.
